Help!!! - Port issues

Recommended Posts

I'm back and of course with issues and need your input.

In October I will complete 3 years of being banded. Two weeks ago I have had pain in the port area that comes and goes. The pain is like a stabbing needle and soreness and is at its worst when I come up from a sitting position. Pain is absent when I'm laying down. There is absolutely no redness or warmness to the area, which eliminates infection. I have been applying ice and heat to the area which helps, but, as I said comes and goes. I had this occur once and lasted a few days and out of the blue felt a subtle pop in the area and the pain went away never to be felt again until now, 1 year later. I talked to my band doc about this the first time and she examined the port and found everything to be fine. I have reluctantly placed a call with the doc, but, may not hear from her for a day or so. I say "reluctantly" because I've had my tubing come thru my skin and my port dislodged in its entirety once already and ended up in a 2 hour surgery to get another port installed and band tubing disinfected. I am terrified of what the doc may tell me. Until I hear from my doc, can someone please give me hope and tell me that this is probably just a stitch or a nerve or something minor that you may have experienced. I just had back surgery 4 months ago and don't want to do the surgery thing again. Hoping for good news! jake

I have no medical training, and therefore no idea what's going on, but I do want to offer my support and wish you good luck. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!!!

Only things I can think of is floating or flipped port or stitches pulling out. Please let us know what the doc finds, I'd be curious to know. Thanks and good luck

How did the tubing pop out of your skin the first time? That sounds extreme. I'm sorry you are having so many issues with your port. When they placed the new port did they put it in the same place?

I have heard that they should move the location of the port when they replace it so that the muscle tissue they latch it to is not compromised from possible previous injury.

Please do let us know how you are doing and I hope you are feeling better soon!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
