We are looking into the surgery for my husband. He is a good candidate for the surgery. (5'10" 305lbs) Our friend had it done and he is very interested in it now. We are going to try and go with her to Mexico next time and meet her doctor. I'm curious if I should think about it for myself though. I am 5'1" and 170-175lbs. I have stuggled with my weight for years. We have two year old twins ... by the grace of God. We both want to be healthier for them. I guess that I am just looking for testimonials and input into the procedure. Thanks!

I really think the band was one of the best decisions thatI have ever made and it has made a huge difference in my life. I really think that your husband will be ever happy with it and feel a huge difference daily once the weight comes off. I would say that he may want to look into a doctor in the states instead over there in case of complications. Good luck

Most US Dr's require you to be 100 lbs above your ideal weight, and have a BMI greater than 35. I don't know about the Dr's in Mexico though.

Check out Dr. Roberto Rumbaut in Monterrey, Mexico. He has excellent credentials and is highly respected in the WLS community - with doctors, patients and Inamed, the manufacturer of the Lap Band. When I was there being banded I met another of Dr. Rumbaut's patient's who had a fairly low BMI and he banded her. She did have some problems with her joints hurting though so I don't know if that played a role in his decision to band her but it's definitely worth discussing it with him. His staff is awesome and will make it very easy for you www.bariatricsurgery.com

Good luck in your decision. BTW, Dr. Rumbaut has a less than 1% complication rate which equals a greater than 99% rate of no complication! Those are as good, or better, than the rates in the states. The person who posted about complications in Mexico just doesn't know any better. I do.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
