I need yalls help. Im kinda freakin out a little bit and dont know whats going on.

So last night i had a rather large bite of a hot dog and small piece of bread. I made a mistake and took way to big of a bite. As im sitting there at the table its hurting to go down. So i excuse myself and go to the bathroom to "pb" it up.

Since then- everything I've eaten (minus liquids) is coming back up. Like it will hurt to go down then i go to the bathroom to "get rid of it"

I went to my doc last week and didn't get a fill. Ive been at 7.3 cc's for a few months and have been fine. Until now.

Will this feeling pass? Will i be able to eat again? Do i need to call my doctor? They don't open till monday.

Any assistance would be helpful. Im a bit nervous. Hope i didnt screw something up inside

Help please!

If it's below your esophageal sphincter and in your pouch, stomach acids will dissolve it. If it's stuck in your esophagus, you should go the the ER.

Can you drink Water? If you can, try chewing on ice to make the swelling go down and stick to cold liquids for at least 24 hours. Or, go the the ER?

I'm newly banded and still on liquids but I was told you could get papaya enzyme that's chewable and it's suppose to help break down food. I picked some up at Walmart just in case.

I've also heard something carbonated could dislodge it. Good luck--I've never been stuck that long but the times I have been were awful. I've found hotdogs are off the table for me for this reason :)

My doc said carbonated drinks will dislodge an obstruction or partial obstruction. If that doesn't work and I'm still uncomfortable, go to the ER and have some Fluid taken out of my band. Hope you're feeling better :)

I know it isn't what you intended when you wrote this, but thanks for the warning to the rest of us. My nutritionist said that hot dogs were off the table once I had the surgery, exactly for reasons like this.

Well, I go to a lot of pro football and baseball games. Having a hot dog and a soda were a big part of the "ballpark experience". I had been thinking to myself, "What if I chew one real well and really slow, maybe that'll make it ok"

After reading your experience, I think I'll stick to other foods at the game. Thanks for the reminder.

Ron

My advice... for what it is worth (absolutely nothing), but this is what I would do in your position.

You say you can get liquids down, so you can stay hydrated. After a bad stuck episode like that, I often go on liquids for a day or so to let any swelling go down. If it doesn't improve by Monday, call your surgeon. If you get to where you cannot get liquids down, call your surgeon immediately or go to the ER.

You might just be sore and swollen from the hot dog being stuck. Doing just liquids for 24-48 hours gives it time to calm down.

As a side note..when I eat them, I use a knife and fork  small, tiny bites.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
