Pain and swelling at port

Does anyone's port area hurt and stick out like a golf ball?

I've been banded 4 years and YES, I do have pain in that area. I can feel the roundness and firmness of the port as well. I was in very bad pain one night and went to the ER early the next morning. Terrible port pain which revealed nothing on the tests taken. I can hardly breath at times when I have these flare ups. My Dr. says it's due to a tender muscle that it's attached to. I've been posting about it for a while now and trying to have it removed. Good luck to everyone else.

I was banded 5-13-13 and I've been having problems with my port since a few days post op. My port is quite prominent. More so than all of my friends that have the band. I have a friend that had her port replaced mid June and hers is not red, irritated or prominent at all. The scar is not even red. My surgeon seems to think I'm rejecting the port. My pcp seems to think it's a hyperstimulated nerve. Much like diabetic neuropathy. It's painful. I can't stand any sort of pressure up against it. But even worse is a very feather light touch. That is excruciating! My pcp has me apply a lidoderm patch for 12 hours on and 12 hours off. I've been doing this since last Friday night. It does seem to be working. I sure hope that it's something simple for you. Maybe you moved wrong or laid on it for too long? Whatever the case may be, I sure hope the best for you!

How long ago was your surgery? If it is red or warm to the touch call your surgeon. If your surgery was a while ago and this is new, get in to see your surgeon or PCP, an inflamed port can be a sign of errosion.

For me, mine can get sore from time to time. But it doesn't stick out, it isn't red, it's always been this way.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
