Low Profile Port??

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me more about a low profile port? I asked my surgeon if she had converted anyone after they lost their weight, and she said that there was only 1 port that was approved for the lap band by Inamed, and wondered if doctors were putting in non-approved ports (non approved by Inamed).

So, for those of you who have had low profile ports put in, can you tell me anything about them? Manufacturer name, part name, stuff like that?

Thanks!

Inamed is the only port that I am aware of. I think the "low profile" is more of a surgical technique than a special port but I'm sure others might have other information.

The low profile port is a flatter port. I know that I've heard of it used on people I was pretty sure had inamed bands. I also want to say I'm sure that I heard of people in the US having it done..... but I can't say where I heard that from. I'll have to see what I can find and report back. :)

I have one. It's approved. No need to worry. It's smaller in diameter and good for people who don't have a lot to lose. Many patients who had the larger port and lost a lot of weight are having their ports replaced. It's part of the inamed LapBand, not some knock-off, and definitely FDA approved for use in the US. I had my surgery in Houston.

If you were here, I'd make you feel it. So far no one wants to.

Yep. it's an official Inamed product.

I'm surprised your doc didn't realize that. It's been out for a bit of a while, and I was switched to an Inamed Low-Profile Access Port, also. It's flatter and is less likely to become 'prominent' as you lose weight. I was very pleased to get it, since I had the Old-School regular port before. Now if I continue losing, this should just continue to flatten out as I do. It's a lot less noticeable, in my opinion.

Happy Band (and Life) Journeys To All.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
