10cc's in 11cc band

Recommended Posts

How many fills did it take before you got to 10cc? I knew my recent fill wasn't enough, but my provider pretty much only does 0.25cc. I think to maximize profit.

It took me 18 fills to fill up my 14cc band. I started out getting 3cc then 2cc and 1cc fills after that. The tighter I got the lower the amount of fills. I was pretty loose at first so getting .25cc would have taken forever!

Lapbandit. I agree with you. I think that some doctors are only in this for the money. I'm still not sure about mine, yet. But, I just got my second fill of 2.5 and now I'm up to 4.0cc. I was self paid: $9,745.00. Every time I go for a fill, I have to pay $200. My third fill is scheduled for September 9th.

There's a fill place in Dallas Texas that does it under X-ray for $50. I drive to Texas for the fill. I am also self pay. And they go by the X-ray. They aren't stingy with their fills

It took me 9cc in my 11cc band to finally get into the green zone and it took about 5 months. I did get .5cc 4 months later and I am now holding steady. It appears some Docs are more aggressive than others. My first fill was 5cc in an empty band. They do not prime during surgery.

11cc Realize Band:

1st fill 5/29/12 5cc

2nd fill 6/12/12 1cc

3rd fill 7/02/12 1cc

4th fill 8/14/12 1cc

5th fill 9/4/12 1cc

6th fill 1/29/13 .5

Guy,, Just curious have you had discussions with your Doc about exceeding the band capacity and what steps would be next for you if in fact you needed another fill?

I am at 9.5 and I worry I will eventually max mine out.

The cool thing is I guess you really can't max them out. While they say that you have a 10cc or a 14cc band that doesn't mean you can't fill it past that. At one time I had over 14.5cc in mine but after a bout of dehydration brought on by not taking in enough fluids and running a 5k in 95 degree heat, I decided to back it back down to just over 14cc. Some people just have leaner stomachs (at least on the inside) and require quite a bit more fill than others. The good news is the band is basically just like a big balloon and you can put a LOT of saline in them!

Through my experience, and observing the posts of many on this forum, while it is fairly easy to reach the conclusion that surgeons who do not fill bands aggressively are doing so to maximize their income, the reality is that the slower you fill your band, the more you minimize your chances to have complications from a band which is filled too tight.

My surgeon requires an entire 6 weeks to elapse between fills, no exceptions. That experience made me more aware of how to work with my band, and not to have to have any emergency appointments to unfill my band.

Just another example of how different surgeons approach their practice and treating their patients. For me, slower was better.

I should have also said that my package has n limited fills for two years, so if it was all about profit they would have been cutting down the nurse time by filling it more aggressively, I've had everything from 1cc to .20 whilst we have searched for that magical spot lol.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
