Hi,

My doc didn't really care how I lost weight, just that I did. So, I opted for Weight Watchers Points. I lost about 17 pounds in about 5 weeks and I didn't feel like I was starving or depriving myself.

Hope this helps! Good luck--you can do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My doc didn't require me to have any type of pre-op diet. (thank God) But I ate 'lite' a few days before the surgery.

I want to do a preop diet for a few weeks before surgery too just to make sure my liver is in good shape for the surgery, even though it is not required by my doc. I have been wondering the same thing. I think i am going to go on a full liquid diet 2 to 3 weeks before surgery, and then Clear Liquids 1 week before surgery. that should help my body get ready.

I didn't have any preop diet, nor did I have any preop weight loss requirements. Has your doctor given you anything, or are you just trying to get ahead of the game? If you are just trying to get ahead of the game, some doctors require a weight loss of up to 10% before surgery, usually with the comment that it shrinks the liver and makes surgery easier. But if you are going to try and lose that weight now, make sure that you have your weight documented somewhere (like your PCP's office) so that you can prove that you lost the weight (instead of being forced to lose MORE weight because they don't believe you).

My physician has us do a strictly liquid diet from Physician's Weight Loss for 3 weeks prior to surgery. It was tough, but so worth it to get my band without complications. He said my liver looked great and I was a textbook patient.

I started pre-op diet today. Will have surgery in 2 weeks. I went to Trader Joe's and got vanilla & chocolate Soy whey Protein Powder. Also got pure pressed Apple juice. Pure carrot & apple Juice Mix. Also, got some non-fat yogurt and frozen fruit like mangos carrots and cherries and pineapples. What I plan to do is blend up the Protein powder, frozen fruit and some juice for 2 meals out of the day. Will be eating veggie broth and Tomato Soup as well.

My surgeon's nutritionist started me on Atkins induction 16 days ago, and I've lost 18 lbs. so far. July 3rd I will start doing 4 Protein shakes a day, along with salads twice a day until the 9th, whichwill be liquid only. I am hoping to lose about 30 by my surgery date.

I think my strongest motivator is to shrink my stomach in the hope that my band will be better fitted from the start, so that I will have optimum restriction right away. Hopefully.

My doctor suggested I begin a liquid diet about a week before my surgery, which is scheduled for July 11. However, I'm thinking about maybe starting weight watchers tomorrow, that gives me about 3 weeks to lose some weight. Then maybe go on the liquid diet starting July 3 for the week before surgery. Good luck to everyone with their upcoming surgery, I will remember everyone in my prayers.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
