Are you taller, now?

Recommended Posts

For those of you that have lost a lot of weight - are you taller now? Are your shoes smaller?

A couple of years ago, a co-worker had gastric bypass. After she lost a lot of weight, she said she had to get all new shoes (poor baby), and she gained an inch in height.

:clap2: :clap2:

I don't know about the extra height, maybe she's standing taller, but I know as I put on the weight my shoe sizes expanded so it makes sense that it would reduce as you loose weight.

Yeah, that's what she said. Her weight was flattening out her feet, and compressing her spine and other joints.

I've shrunk an inch over the past few years. I know because I nearly punched the Weight Watchers lady in the face as 176cm meant I'd have to lose more weight! I'm pretty sure I"m actually 179 though, I measured that in my surgeon's office.

Oh dang what a hardship, not only are we all gonna have to buy a whole new wardrobe but we're gonna need to buy all new shoes too :)

I know I'm an inch shorter now than I was when I was thin. I also know that lots of people lose some height as they get older.

I will continue to hope that I regain my inch when all this weight isn't, through that lovely law of nature, gravity, pulling with all it's might toward the earth!

As to the shoes, all I wear now are ugly, comfortable, brogans! Even if I don't NEED to, I fully intend to throw away all ugly shoes and only wear cute ones from the day I reach my goal weight. Maybe sooner!

I don't know about actually getting taller. But my mom just told me today "You know the more you lose, the shorter you look." How depressing. I'm only 5'3 1/2 anyway.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
