Cant take in required calories

Recommended Posts

How do you guys get your calories...I find even tho im eating frequently during the day I get uncomfortably full when trying to get enough. I have been adding Protein Shakes to my diet to increase my calories but i find even those fill me up. I have a really hard time with raw veggies and most fruits so its hard to pack those kinds of things to work with me. Starches are impossible because they almost always get stuck. I guess im just having trouble being on the go and on such restrictions. I would love to hear what eveyone else is doing.

What do you consider enough? Our bodies can get by just fine on 800-1000 day.

I live by a simple rule: If I'm hungry I eat. If I'm not hungry, I don't eat.

If you're eating until you're uncomfortably full (or full at all) then you're eating too much. You don't want to stretch your pouch or cause any other problems by over-eating.

Protein is the easiest way to add "good" calories to your day. The trick is to make all your meals count both nutritionally and for calories. In other words, you want the most bang for your buck.

I don't have a problem with eating yet. Everything goes down just fine. I now get a signal when I'm getting a tightness in the chest. I'm not sure if that's the green One but occasionally I'll go over my calorie allotment. But I'm always on average between 1200 and 1300 cal a day. If I go below a thousand my body starts to play tricks on me like I'm going into starvation mode. However, like Ms73 I keep it simple. When I'm hungry I eat. When I'm not I don't. It works for me. I used to live to eat and would say to myself, ooh it's lunchtime I must eat. Now I eat to live and find that I'm not looking for food like I used to. So if I skip lunch I'm not going to worry about it and make it up at dinner. I just eat until I'm satisfied and most of the time I'm a little over 1000 cal a day. I hope it all works out for you. Just remember, eat when you're hungry.

Some days I am only getting prob between 600-800 calories. That for me is 1 Protein shake and some supper. And yes I do love Peanut Butter...in fact i make most of my Protein shakes with it!

Since I'm usually tight in the morning I just skip Breakfast and eat my first meal around Noon. I used to think Peanut Butter had a lot of sugar in it but looking at some of the labels it doesn't look too bad. I don't have a lot of experience with it and weight loss because I kind of avoided it so I can't really give a good opinion on it.

Is there any food or beverages that we need to stay completely away from??!

Unfortunately we can't help unless we know exactly what you're doctor allows at that phase. It's very important to stick to your post op diet exactly.

I switched from Atkins to Premier Protein simply because nurse said I wasn't getting enough Protein. They are pretty good I felt much better after I made the switch.

i am with missy on this one. i eat when i am hungry and when i do eat, i make it count and by that i mean (protein first and mostly) and eat veggies and fruit.....and like pink, i have been known to lick of Peanut Butter of a small spoon..just listen to your body......it will tell you when its truly hungry...and if you are, then eat...just make it count.

I stick with meats' date=' cheeses, and eggs. If I'm on the go I'll grab some Jerky or some almonds or if I need to do fast food I'll get a Big Mac without the bun or a roast beef sandwich from Arby's and just eat the meat.[/quote']

Guy I too pretty much eat only meat, fish, eggs, cheese and veggies with a nutribullet shake with Protein.

I have a fruit, and Protein Shake in am, and then cheese, or tuna salad, or chicken salad for lunch. For dinner I have, usually, fish and maybe a veggie.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
