Did anyone have swelling around their port? I am 4 days post op and the site where my port is swollen about the size of my hand. Is this normal? It's not red, hot, nor is painful. Just wondering if anyone else experienced this.

I did have swelling and soreness around my port about a week post op. i went to the Dr. and he said that was normal. The swelling is your body building scar tissue around the port. The Dr. said the more scar tissue the better, because it would be easier for them to find the port when filling.

Yep, your healing inside and out , it takes time, you might even experience little twinges of discomfort farther out as well. things that feel like "bee stings" are the tubing on the left side under your ribs (at least that is what my doctor said)..

Good Luck on band Journey :)

I was just swollen all over my stomach but not my port area. What I did experience was a stinging sensation around the port when I would bend over or turn over, but I'm 19 days post op and that has all gone away now. The worst was the gas pain in my upper left shoulder/neck area. OUCH!!!!!

I just had my second port revision this past friday because it had flipped and I'm also swollen from where the port is. I have been applying an ice pack and that seems to be helping with the swelling. It's all worth it..

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
