Starting my liquid diet today, have one question....

Recommended Posts

I got approved and my surgery is on June 17th. I start the broths and the shakes today. However, I am a huge Chinese food addict (which plays a big role in why I'm getting the band). I don't expect I'll be eating much of that after, but for now, does anyone think it would be okay to get a quart of broth from the Chinese take out? You know, the kind of broth they use for Wonton Soup? Without the wontons of course. And what about egg drop Soup?

I am getting pretty nervous about this. Some days I am very excited, and others, like now, I think I may be making a mistake. But I do realize if I didn't go through with it, nothing will change. I will only keep gaining and get less healthy. BTW my weight now is 410.

Congrats on getting approved! The next few weeks will be a little rough, but just hang in there. I'd ask your doctor about the wonton broth. It's not supposed to have anything in the broth so I'm not sure about the egg drop Soup but I'd definitely ask your doctor first. I did chicken broth and vegetable broth, along with the Protein Shakes and sugar free pops.

Congrats! I am a Chinese food freak too! I am going to miss it, but I would rather be skinny, lol. I would think that the chinese Soup would have alot of salt and maybe even MSG in it. I have not gotten as far as you, I have another mth of visits before I can get approved, but so not ready for liquid diet. Good luck!

With all the various pre-op diets required by different surgeons, it'd be best to ask your team. For me, the pre-op "diet" was one week of Clear Liquids only....no shakes, no food, nothing but clear/zero calorie liquids. You can do it, one day at a time. Congrats on your decision to get healty! :)

Hello and welcome! Just curious...why do you think you're making a mistake?

What I mean by mistake is that sometimes I feel like I might not be able to handle denying myself the foods that I love after. I know everyone goes through this, I just hope it passes after the band is in. I am determined to go through with it because it is either I do it now, or I watch my life go by and do nothing.

There should be no deny. Once you are banded and have progress to solid food there is nothing you cannot eat. Some things will be better choices obviously, but there is nothing I ate before surgery that I cannot eat now. I make healthier choices, but do not deny my cravings.

I bought a quart of broth without the wontons and it was fine. I still get the broth without wontons to this day.

I ate the wonton broth once on my liquid diet. I did fine with it.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
