Day after first fill.. Not feeling any difference

Recommended Posts

Just had my fill yesterday. I do not feel satisfied after 4 oz of food, in fact I need about 6 oz to feel satisfied. I'm disappointed, I really thought I would feel more satisfied with the band.

I'll eat three flounder fillets (200 calories) and 1/2 can of green or yellow Beans for lunch or supper. Total calories are well under 300, but the Protein is where it is supposed to be.

Why are you so limited on portion sizes? I guess all doctors are different, but my APRN told me not worry about portion size, but to keep strict control over my calories and to make sure I ate enough Protein.< /p>

Also, for the first 24 or 48 hours after a fill most doctors advise the patient to follow a soft food or liquid diet to allow swelling to go down.

It will likely take several fills before you feel any significant difference in restriction. It also depends how aggressively your surgeon is filling your band.

It is extremely important to continue to measure your portions even though you are easily able to eat more before your hunger is satiated. One thing you DON'T want to do is risk stretching your pouch with portions sizes that are too large.

A common "rule of thumb" is that just because you can eat more than you should does not mean that you should.

If you want to see the scale move, it requires adhering to the diet prescribed by your medical team.

Best wishes for a successful journey...

I had my first fill on Tuesday (5/28). My PA puts in 2cc as standard and than the next time I go in she will use do another fill. I feel very little restriction from the fill. I am still eating between 3-4 ozs of lean Protein for lunch and dinner. However, I am staying full a little bit longer than before. I can't wait for my next fill on 6/18. Maybe a few more fills and you will find the "sweet spot." Good luck!

6 oz is great. Just make sure it's lean Protein and low fat/cal veggies and you'll lose weight.

Was told not to expect much until I had 2 or 3 fills. Get second fill tomorrow, but have already lost 55 pounds from when I started this journey. 16 pre surgery and 39 post surgery. Hope I get a good kick start tomorrow.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
