Is this normal?

Recommended Posts

I just woofed down 7 chocolate chip rice cakes and had no problem at all. It's no wonder I haven't lost any weight! Just wondering if this is normal? I mean normal as far as no restriction, I already know eating that much in one sitting is not normal.:phanvan

My doc told me at my fill not to eat bread or Pasta because there is no way it would go through that he made it so tight.

Banded March 10 and one fill a week ago. I had my fill and went back the next day and begged the doctor to put more saline because I had eaten a can of pistacios (sp?). So he supposedly put in so much he said I would be back to have some taken out. No such luck!!:hungry:

I think it is normal at this point. You and I were banded on the same day and I am going through EXACTLY the same thing. Just earlier I was able to eat almost an entire bag of cheese rice cakes. I know that they aren't bad for me but I should not be able to eat that much!!:help: However, like you, I have had one fill a week ago and am not properly restricted. My doctor also was fairly agressive, filling my 4cm band halfway to 2ccs and warned that I would probably be full off of not much. No luck yet!! Hang in there though. Remember--it normally takes bandsters 3-5 fills to get to proper restriction so we are in fact normal to be able to eat a lot at this stage. I am planning on scheduling my 2nd fill when I come back from vacation in 2 weeks. Hopefully I won't gain any weight while I am away by overeating but I am awfully hungry all of the time.:hungry: Good luck!!

Rice cakes dissolve into nothing when they get wet, so sure you can eat a lot of them. Eat something solid and you will likely not have the same reaction. Also, many people have reported that it can take a week or two for a fill to "kick in" and they are surprised by restriction when they don't expect it.

Take it slow, think about what you're eating and how you're chewing. Breathe between bites. Think about whether you want that next bite or if you are actually getting full. You may not feel what you think of as restriction, but you may in fact be able to get satisfied on less food IF YOU LET YOURSELF FEEL IT. That's the hardest part of this journey and it's never too soon to start working on it.

Exactly Alex, I can eat a ton of lettuce/salad, but give me a bagel, or something hearty like that and its another story. The density of food does make a big difference. Thats why chips and junk food go down easy where as eat some chicken or steak and your humming another tune.

May I suggest giving your fills a week or two before go running back to the doctor for more.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
