What was the first habit you changed?

Recommended Posts

I stopped going into the kitchen when I come home in the evening. I go to my room instead, or now that it's nice I go outside and spend time in the yard with the family.

Giving up foods, changing attitude, eating different, tracking EVERYTHING eaten as everyone else said is spot on but for me it was about IDENTIFYING the trigger moments that made me want to eat and changing them. All of my other decisions to change fell in place once I changed that!

Btw, there are still days I sit in my room watching tv with a hot tea and pout because I can't eat... Crazy? sure! but food was/is my frenemy that gives instant gratification, sooths them stabs you in the back. Sooooo, pout I do but I'm 70 lbs down since oct!!

Definitely small bites and breaks between bites. I eat with a teaspoon or oyster fork at home and at work, which helps

I love this idea! Since I feel that this is my biggest struggle I think I'll try this also.

Love how you think outside of the box!

I had to slow down when I ate.. my husband eats like a house on fire so after being married to him for 37 years I ate way too fast to keep up with him.. now I eat very slow .. he's done way before me but I told him to go ahead and leave the table..I also have not had anything with more than 5 grams of sugar in it since surgery... sugar is my trigger and I have to stay away from it so I can lose the weight I need to.

I was taking medication for diabetes before surgery now I do not have to.. my small changes have had big results...

For me it was giving up things - soda, most bread (but not all) and fast food. I don't touch any of it still, I have my cravings here and there but overall don't miss it

For me it was pasta...I ate it morning noon and night! Also soda and chocolate. I bought candy bars all the time. Since I was prediabetic I am very careful with any sweets.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
