1st posting - Surgery scheduled for May 2nd - YEAH !

Recommended Posts

First, thank God for this website. It has been such support. My name is Lauri and I began down the road to Lap Band on March 20, 2006. I have completed all my required medical tests and evaluations and I have received insurance approval. I am scheduled for surgery Tuesday May 2nd. I am so excited.... very excited.

I am married and the mother of an adopted 12 year old boy. We are also active foster parents for our community DCFS. I found I concentrated my efforts on pleasing others maybe in a subconscious attempt to avoid my personal issues. I am 5'2" and currently weigh 190 lbs. I have always excepted my body and believe beauty is within. But my physical size has started to interfere with enjoying life. I want to ride bikes with the kids and paddle a kayak with my husband (without exceeding the boat's weight limit!) and so much more.... Oh, and I want new clothes. I LOVE clothes and I can't wait for the day to purchase "regular" size stuff. Oh, My God... trhilling it will be!

The event that made me realize I needed help happened in Cancun, Mexico this past February. I fell (at the pool in a bathing suit!) and could not get myself up. HORRIFYING. I was so embarrassed. My arms could not physically lift my weight and I was just stuck! I was bleeding and hurt and just flopped there. My family was not around when it happened and I struggled and struggled. I'm sure I was quite a sight! :faint:

So this is it. Life changing commitment with life changing results!

Band -on !

Anyone from Chicago's north side??

Welcome to LBT Lauri!! Boy, you sure moved fast on approval and testing. How wonderful!! :clap2:

Bless your heart for helping children!! I have 2 adopted nephews and 1 adopted niece. They all came from Russia. They are so precious and I get teary-eyed sometimes when thinking of what they have been through. I love to spoil them.

You should come over and join the May Group....we would love to have you.

I used to live in Meridian Hills Court apartments when I lived in Indy in 1988 - I know the area you live in well,. I am also familiar with St. Vincent's as well. Good luck with your procedure!

I was just scanning through some threads, and saw that you had surgery today. Hope all went well, and welcome to Bandland. I have been on this side for just over a week! It was much easier than I had anticipated, I had an easy recovery and hope you do the same. Let us know how you are doing!! Come back for lots of support!

May 2nd "Band Day" has come and gone. I am 3 days post-op and things are good. My largest incision is very tender and I am totally fearing the first sneeze! I hadn't considered how much the abdominal muscles would hurt.....boy! But I'm up and moving around. Doing very light house work like loading the dishwasher and folding laundry. Today I'm going to my son's track meet. Kinda excited about leaving the house. All is good.

Hi Lauri and welcome to bandland! I just had mine last Friday. It amazes me how everyone's recovery is different. I still feel lousy, and yes, those sneezes are rough. Everytime I feel one coming on I grab my belly and hold on for dear life, lol.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
