Still Sore and Hurting after 4 weeks? Normal?

Recommended Posts

:help: Hi There, was hoping to hear from others who may have or have had similar symptoms to me, I had my operation done at the end of march 2006 and although im glad that its working and the weight is coming off,i am still quite sore around the port area. I still get sharp pains and soreness,am i just being paranoid?:paranoid .I had my first fill a week ago and im wondering if that could have possibly brought on the pain a bit more,i rang the doctors office and they told me that it cant have but if still hurting to call them on monday being 1st may 2006. Has anyone else had pain still last for this long and if so what kind of pains and also if anyone else has had other things going on?!!:nervous hope to hear from you soon, and hoping the doctor will tell me its all normal!!!:clap2:

I was banded 4 weeks ago also and yes, my port is still tender and even a bit bruised. My surgeon will not do fills for 8 full weeks after the surgery because he believes it takes that long to fully heal. From what you describe, it sounds like your port area was still healing and the fill might have hindered that process and increased the pain.

I was banded on March 7, 2006 and my port is finally, just this week, starting to feel normal. Up till this week I had all different kinds of pain, from bruised feeling to tingling to stabbing. I was kind of freaked out about it too so I know what you mean about feeling paranoid. I worry about my port, or getting a port infection more than anything about this whole process.

You're probably just fine but if you have symptoms like hotness, redness, oozing, obviously call your doctor right away. My bet is you'll be feeling pretty good at around 8 weeks post op.

Yep, I had this too for several months after surgery. Kind of a wierd "ghost" type stinging sore sensation. Try leaning into a pillow to take the pressure off of it. Helped me quite a bit.

The port area could take several weeks to heal. In fact, my actual port incision was quite tender for several months and easily became sore if I sat bent at the waist very long or wore jeans with a waistband which irritated it.

Me too! Just a little bit of pressure on it and it became very tender for the longest time.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
