Anyone not requering pre-op diet?

Recommended Posts

Hi' date=' I was wondering if anyone here is not requiring to do the pre-op diet. My doctor told me that if you are 35 BMI or less, you don't have to do pre-op diet. I'm 32 BMI so I was wondering if I should do it anyways. I'm getting so lazy about it!

Hi - and congrats on your upcoming surgery! My pre-op diet (2 weeks prior) is just a low-carb diet. Still needing to get in 1200-1500 cals/day, with 60g of Protein. I only have to do Clear Liquids 24 hours before surgery. The other advice people have given about going ahead and changing some habits is a great idea, though. I was addicted to diet soda - and gave it up cold turkey 23 days ago (yes, I'm counting lol!) because I can't ever have it again! Get used to drinking all the Water between meals - and not having anything WITH meals. That's a hard one, too, but I'm hoping will get easier with time. Good luck in your journey!

Has anyone on the whey Protein had any reactions to it? I have developed a rash since starting my pre-op diet 9 days ago. The diet change is the only change I've made. No new soaps, detergents, meds or anything like that.

My Dr told me to have a Protein Shake twice a day but could still have 1 to 2 lite meals a day. I started a modified version a week before I had to do the two weeks prior to surgery. It hasn't been to bad. I have lost 14 pounds!!

No formal pre-op diet, just a recommendation to lose 10 lbs by surgery. Initial weigh-in was March 18th, surgery will be May 15th...was down 9 lbs at my final pre-op appointment 2 days ago :-)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
