Hi! I'm new and gotta question about my port

Recommended Posts

I was banded on April 11. It's been an okay journey thus far. My biggest wish is for the diarrhea to stop. My question is... I think I have located my port (I see the doc on Wednesday so I'll know for sure then). I think the port is almost smack in the middle of my belly, about 3 inches above my belly button and slightly to the left (I'm very tall so this is nowhere near my bra line). I can see and feel a lump under my incision. Is that the port? Can anyone else see their port? I have some belly fat but I gain weight all over, so my stomach is not excessively fatty. I'm afraid that when I lose weight, the port will be even more noticeable and might even be seen under some shirts. Any advice or comments are welcome. Thank you for your help <3

Hi there, banded on the 8th april. I'm 5'7" and my port is just under my breast bone, I can't see it but if I press my fingers I can feel it, plus it's under an incision so easily located! I'm in the UK but I'm sure we put the port where everyone else does lol

Good luck

Vickie xx

So that bump is the port. Darn it! Have you ever hear of anyone being able to see it so clearly? Do you think is could just be swelling?

Some people can't see it, most people can feel it (like a hard disc under the skin) and others can not only see the outline of the port, but see an actual bump that protrudes out of the skin.

I too, was worried about this in the beginning but now i've lost over 50 lbs and am really getting close to my goal weight, and still cannot see it, just feel it.

If it's really obvious and noticeable you could always get it replaced with a smaller port, but really don't worry about it right now!

As my doc said "we'll cross that bridge when we get there"

Thanks. I guess i'm worrying over nothing. There is a definite bump but it's not like I'm going to be showing off my belly anytime soon. I guess I freaked out because i have a shirt i want to wear when I lose about 70 pounds. It's knit and form fitting so the bump will definitely show through it especially, with the added weight loss. It's my goal shirt and when i can, i'll wear it proudly, bump and all. Thanks for the advice :)

I was named April 8th and saw my doctor today. I asked him about my pet because it is easily felt when I stand. He said it may recess a bit more but nor much. Going it does. ..luckily I cannot see it, but it is weird that is so noticeable. Hopefully your port will go down too and I'm sure there's still some swelling involved.

My port is in about the same location as described in an earlier post, and I was concerned about the location as well. I can feel it easily, and I'm hoping that it doesn't poke out after losing the weight. I to have a shirt that is in my goal range. I'm worried that it's going to be identifiable later. If I have to, I'll ask the doctor to move it later if need be. I don't want to look like I have two belly buttons, one inny and one outy. Lol

I have a bump but it's not too noticeable. I've heard some people eventually have their surgeon put in a low profile port after losing weight.

Good to know about a low profile port. Hopefully it's not needed. I'm hoping to NEVER have and kind if surgery again after this one.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
