Tightness in the mornings

Recommended Posts

I've heard people mention this, but never experienced it. I got a fill on Tuesday and I can barely eat half of a scrambled egg. I've never had restriction until now. I'm wondering if maybe I'm to tight. Is this normal?

if it is just tightness in the morning you are ok because overnight as you sleep the muscle tighens up. When you get out of bed you need to drink a glass or two of water...some say something warm like tea which helps loosen you up. Even then you still may find it hard to eat Breakfast but as the days wears on you should get better. Also as long as you are not having trouble swallowing liquids, no reflux etc. you are ok. Just give it a few days because along with the fill tighening you up, you also have swelling from just getting the fill...the swelling should subside in a day or two....oh if you just got a fill then you may want to do liquids today then soft foods tomorrow....your doctor should have instructed you in the what to eat .... when to eat catagory.

I was on liquids for 48 hrs and soft for 48, can't go back to normal eating until after 3 today. Liquids go down fine and its easier to eat in the evenings. I guess maybe I'm where I should be in the zone.

Hi beachgirl ( great neme. lol) It is very normal to have this happen after a fill. I actually know people that have this everyday. They need to drink before getting anything down. Good luck with everythibg. I hope it gets better.

Yup normal for me. My Dr. told me to get used to Protein Shakes because I would be drinking them for breakfast the rest of my life. 90% of his staff, including his nurse are banded, and they all start their day that way. I have a shake first thing, and then mid morning I am able to eat eggs.< /p>

Oddly enough, eggs seem to be one of those foods the band likes to hate. Relearning how to eat is one of the most difficult stages of your journey and unfortunately, many a bandster finds this area to be the one area that kills their weight loss because they just can't adjust to eating so small, chewing so big and doing it all so slowly. Distraction can be your worst enemy at this stage. Watching TV or talking to a family member while eating can take your focus away long enough to swallow that one bite that wasn't chewed enough and cause a stuck episode.

It took me 10 months of being banded before I figured this "eating like a bandster" stage out. And I'm still working on it 17 months out.

I have given up trying to eat in the morning and ave started taking Vitamin supplements as well to ensure that I'm getting the right nutrients. I'm ok after four o clock and have to be careful about empty calories as sweets have no bother getting past the band !

I'm going into my 7th year of being banded... out of the 7 days of the week my band may be tight 3 of 7 days in the morning when I wake up... but not always. I can go weeks or months with no tightness.

When I do have mornings that I am tight I have a fews sips warm coffee or tea and wait about 10 minutes... this does the trick for me then i can eat my breakfast with no issues at all.

Omg 2muchfun your like me. The only egg I found is easier to eat is a poached one For some stupid reason. I'm a rig mechanic and usually at 4:30 in morning I don't eat jyst fluids. Takes to long to get anything down. Getting distracted is easy for me to do.

I'm in the poached eggs only group, too. Two years out, and I still can't eat in the morning. After some coffee and time, I can get in some yogurt with my Vitamins, but my first real meal of the day isn't until lunch. I think being tight in the morning is pretty normal. I'm used to it, and it doesn't bother me. I just know to power down Protein shake(s) if I'm off to do something super physical like a day hike.

Try hot coffee or tea before u eat in the morning, it tends to relax those muscles that may be tighter in the morning (also since it is so soon after a fill, it might just be residual swelling that will subside in a day or so!)

I agree with you Suzannetex. Same here and that is not a complaint.

I had my third fill since my surgery 18 months ago and prior to this I never really had to change my eating habits, but after this last fill I am finally experiencing what I have been told are stuck episodes and restrictions from the band. I can hardly eat any breads (maybe a small bite or two), morning tightness and eating in much smaller moderations. I can't seem to eat solid foods until after 1pm. I'm worried I won't be gettng enough nutrients by 1pm.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
