- woke up on stomach- bad pain and swollen

Recommended Posts

I woke up on my stomach (normally stomach sleeper) I'm 2 weeks post op and in bad pain near port area. My stomach is swollen as well. I can't stand up straight because it hurts from the swelling in assuming. Help! Anyone else like this? What can I do? Other than the obvious of not sleeping on my stomach...can't help that since I turned in my sleep.< /p>

(pain and swelling is completely normal) but if it hurts as bad as you are saying call the dr to be safe and give you a piece of mind.

I hurts pretty damn bad, but I'm 99% sure it's from the pressure that caused the swelling. What can I do to help the swelling go back down?

Might be an idea to put a pillow either side of you when u are sleeping, this will stop u turning over in your sleep, till u are fully healed and can sleep on your tummy without any problems, I do agree tho a quick phone call to the doctors cant hurt :)

I just tried to call, not open yet. Don't think it's emergency number worthy since I know what the problem is. So, they open at 8 or 9, I'll call again then.

And I totally did a body pillow, but apparently I just moved around it. The kicker? I've only had 3 hrs of sleep so I know I wasn't on it for THAT long

Ouch I remember hurting when I woke as I would flip onto my tummy throughout the night. I started to put a pillow in front of my tummy so if I'd flip over I'd have the pillow as support.

Hopefully your pain med will kick in quickly and you should settle, you're just going to be very tender till healing is complete.

I would call your doc. I am only a week and a half out and woke up on my belly the past two nights with no pain or discomfort what so ever. I know everyone is different but you have a few days on me....

Where is your port? Mine is right above my belly button

IS the area hot or warm to the touch? Is it Red? are you running a fever? all of these things relate to an infection. that being said, it might be Normal post -op tenderness. as stated call the office when you can, better to be safe and have peace of mind.

Sorry guys, I fell asleep. I ended up taking some pain meds and using a heating pad one cycle. Swelling is gone now, I did however call the doctors office back (called before they were open earlier) and explained what had happened and that I wanted to check if it was normal and what to do next time. Anyway, waiting on a call back from them. I'll let you know what they say.

No, it's not an infection, I don't have a fever or anything like that, and it's not my port site, it was literally my insides and my port were super swollen that was causing the pain. I'm still a little tender there , but nothing like it was

So is mine, above and slightly to the left. Have not had any problems the past couple of days with pain there.... I am a little uncomfortable in some positions but no more real pain.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
