Getting off track

Recommended Posts

I was banded on Feb 1st 2013.. Ive lost 38 pounds so far... which i am ecstatic about. About a week ago i went in to see my doctor thinking somehting was wrong, because I was feeling hungry often and eating more (i thought my band had slipped or something). The doctor told me this was normal, because as you lose weight your band gets looser. make sense. so she gave me a fill and sent me on my way. BUT since then its like ive lost my mind. I know i am making bad food choices but its like i convince myself its ok (like eating ice cream bc it eventually turns to liquid and doesnt take up space in my tummy-!!crazy !!), and then feel horrible afterwards. i know what it sounds like. i was doing so well prior to this last week, my willpower was intact i guessbut now--- its an awful feeling because i know im probably doing damage but idk its hard. i want to say on track and 'be strong' and i know everyone has cravings and most of you are able to move past them. im wondering if anyone else is or has felt like me; and how did you overcome it?

I have been banded 15 months and still battle cravings. Most of the time they're fleeting and if I wait it out they go away but sometimes I just have to give in. When I do give in, I try to do it in a manner I still stay within my daily calories.

Tracking every single calorie I eat is a great tool to keep from cheating. Like the ice cream scenario you describe. It doesn't matter if it turns to liquid, when you see the calories you're consuming and know it's going to put you over then you can no longer rationalize it. For me, tracking my calories keeps both on track and accountable.

Best wishes.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
