Another embarrassing subject.....Diarrhea!

Recommended Posts

I'm 13 days out; on mushy food, and having a problem with diarrhea. It's a real turnaround for me, because before surgery I had chronic Constipation. Is anyone having.....or have had this issue?

Today I finally was able to take the dog out for a walk. My stomach felt weird, and I kept having internal burps. Though we walked for about 20 minutes, I cut it short & went home. I felt really weird. A little later, when I tried to eat lunch, I kept having those internal burps. I put the fork down & decided that eating wasn't a good idea. I don't know where all this is coming from, but I just sat down to eat my dinner (little red potato with cottage cheese), and could only eat a small amount before having to run to the bathroom. Really?! So odd.....and so different.

Again, this is more likely from having your gallbladder removed than from your Lap Band.

You have to remember that while done laproscopically gallbladder surgery is still a major surgery. They are removing an organ. It changes it your digestive system and the way your body processes food. It takes most people months for their bodies to adjust after having their gallbladder removed. In the meantime excessive gas, diarrhea, and bile in the mouth is normal.

I had awful diarrhea after the surgery. I take colace every day since the surgery because of Constipation. I have had constipation for many years. Weird how the insides change. Ask your doctor about any BM problems, they always know best or try to make us feel better.

Thanks Missy. That actually crossed my mind earlier, but I dismissed it. Having my gallbladder out was (in my mind) such a minor thing, as my focus was on the bariatric surgery. I never gave much thought to any adjustments having it removed, because it's so commonplace. I know so many who have had their gallbladders out, and never heard any complaints about any of this stuff. I can't help but think part of it is eating so little, and drinking so much Fluid. There isn't much to bond into a good sturdy solid. TMI??

Constipation was my concern, because it's something that I'm used to dealing with. I was afraid all the pressure would be horrible after surgery. But I haven't had that issue......yet. Maybe it's coming down the healing road. Something in between to two would be great, though :P

I just read some info on gallbladder removal, and diarrhea is certainly at the top of the list. You're probably right on this. With all that was done, it's difficult to know what's what. I may put a call into my doctor on Monday.

I had mine removed 38 years ago and for many years had diarrhea. Now I am the opposite. Every day I take colace for soften and Miralax to go. Weird how bodies change over the years. Call your doctor and ask for advise and help.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
