Did anyone have to pay additional fee?

Recommended Posts

My surgeon is charging a fee of almost 3000$ on top of the actual procedure.

I didn't have an additional fee. I mean, I was charged office visits (my insurance and union are still working on paying those hopefully), but my copay was only $75. Check with your insurance to make sure that's a legit charge. As the above post states, it may just be your copay.

I went to one surgeon that charged a $1500 program fee for insurance people. I went to a new surgeon that didn't have a fee and all I had to pay was 200 copay. I figured I would need that $ for new cloths so why pay it to the surgeon when others don't charge a fee!

Yes I also had to pay my surgeon a $3000 "fee" My insurance is paying 100% of my surgery. This "fee" has nothing to do with the insurance. I was told it was for follow up support for lifetime! Not for fills or office visits just for once a month support meetings. I was NOT happy to say yhe least when I found out about this but I did not want to rock the boat since after almost 1 year my surgery is finally April 2nd!

Insurance will cover surgery, but not always the surgeon's fee? Call and ask the insurance people at your practice what gives.

This "fee" has nothing to do with what the insurance pays the surgeon.. This was paid directly from me to my surgeon! grrrrr

It's just excess profit for the doctor! I think insurance companies should tell doctors if you want to charge these fees then we won't let are people use you. The first seminar I went to the hospital charge 400 dollar fee so I went to a better hospital who had no fee.

My insurance company paid 100%. The $750 was an additional surgeon fee that included 18 months of free unlimited access to the fitness center (that I don't even use because it's over a hour away). I didn't mind paying the extra fee because my surgeon is the best in my area. I am very pleased with my surgeon and his staff.

I'm not sure if I missed that it was a surgeons fee or not, but if it wasn't, is it possible it was for a hernia repair?

I had to pay $4,000 out of pocket and upfront, that's to cover all my visits for life but my fills are bulk billed.

My surgery was 100% covered by my insurance.

Not sure about the USA but here in Australia I can claim that amount with my tax returns at the end of the financial year.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
