Stick to your allocated foods. Don't be a hero... just say no to the lasagna. It sure beats the alternative! Good luck going forward. Eating out is a whole new life skill. You will get there. Experience is a great teacher.

A good trick for avoiding this in this type of setting is to ask the venue in advance for a vegetarian plate. I find myself in this situation quite often and many times the vegetarian alternative is much easier to eat, although it may not really give you much Protein. So I just plan and eat before or after (protein) and then I will cut up the veggies, eat some and move some around as to not draw attention at this type of event.

I feel your pain though, I had a terrible experience with rubber chicken before I learned this trick.

Just curious--how long have you been banded? What I'm asking is had you been cleared for salad, Pasta, etc? Please don't think I'm asking this to made a judgement about anyone's foods---it's more to see about how I should approach certains foods at the stages that they are introduced. Was this the first time you'd eaten "raw" (lettuce) and pasta-based dishes? If not, what do you think was different about them that made you not be able to tolerate them?

Your profile says you have been banded for less than a week and you are doing salad and lasagna? Well, if your Dr.s instructions say it was ok, then who am I to say anything. Wait, your Dr.s instructions did say salad and Pasta were allowable after 6 days, right?

Oh, sorry, I see you've been banded a week (like me)! Oh man. I feel for you. Sorry you had to go thru that.

I admire that you are on a trip with a bunch of high school kids so soon! I get exhausted doing the grocery shopping; I can't imagine traveling with a load of rowdy adolescents! My hat is off to you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
