do you lose more weight with...

Recommended Posts

In your opinion do you lose more weight with lap band with plication than without? Just wondering? My surgeon does not do the plication procedure which now I'm kinda bummed if it speeds up the process, however I'm happy with my weight loss thus far and proud of it because 9 mos ago I could hardly walk, bend over, breathe. This has been a life altering experience, for the better and can only get better as I lose more. I average 3 to 4 lbs a month. I am just now able to exercise, have experienced probs up until now and with weather getting nice here I will be able to get outside and walk at least to start out.

I have a minor slip right now and am comtemplating a revision. I think I'm going to talk to my dr about getting the plication with it this time (unavailable in 2009) so I don't have to worry about slips in the future. At least, that what I hear - that it cuts down on slips. Not sure if you lose more weight with it or not, don't know much about it, actually. Good luck tho in finding info!

Everyone is different so there is not really a clear way to answer that question. I have band but have no idea if I would have lost more another way.

I would think no matter what way you go you still have to eat totally different and keep it that way forever. I have been losing 10 lbs a month which they say is great I am so pleased with it seeing numbers now I cant tell you when I last saw them...keep going you are doing great

my dr told me if i didnt change what i eat, begin to exercise and change my diet mentailty, no WLS surgery would help me......i feel its helped me because i am helping the band and my plication....some are now saying this will (help more)..who knows...depends on the persons level of want power.

The plication is supposed to mimic the sleeve. That means that it should give you a big "leg up". You shouldn't go through bandster hell as it should give you immediate "restriction".

Just clarify with your surgeon that you are both talking about the same thing when you discuss plication. Many surgeons refer to the way that they stitch a piece of the stomach over the band to stop it slipping as plication.

I personally believe it doesn't matter which WLS you choose, the speed and success is completely dependant on the person.

You have to remember, none of the WLS make you lose weight. They are all tools to make it easier to consume less calories so you lose weight. This is why people fail, too. They expect magic when they still have to make major lifestyle changes to be successful.

As far as weight loss speed, again it depends on the person more than the WLS of choice. I've lost almost 200 pounds in 14 months, which people would expect from bypass not the band. But, I've done it and did it in a very healthy manner.

Plication is just another tool, like any other WLS surgery.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
