I have scheduled to have tomorrow Wednesday (surgery day) to Monday off from work. I work as a mechanic and can avoid lifting anything more than 20lbs pretty easily and will be walking up and down stairs and through the workplace regularly. For this activity level, do you think this is enough days off?

How many days did it take you to feel strong enough to return to work?

I had my surgery on Tuesday and was doing light duty by Friday. Three weeks out I was shooting (photographer) which requires lifting about 50 pounds consistently. I know everyone is different, but I had very little pain or discomfort.

Best of luck to you!

It could be. I'd just take it real easy when you do go back to work and if you feel queasy, go home early.

Thanks for your quick responses. I just don't know what to expect since I have never had an abdominal surgery.

I sit at a desk all day long. I took off two weeks. When I went back I kept getting pain in my left shoulder so I had to stand and work. I actually had to take a few more days off. Thats me and every one is different.

Had surgery on Thursday and went back to work on Monday. I can honestly say it was pretty painless except for some shoulder discomfort that was relieved by walking and a heating pad. I never even needed the pain meds. Everyone is different, unfortunately your not going to know until it's over. Good luck with your surgery tomorrow!!

I took one week off.....went stir crazy after 4 days, went into the office and ran some errands....thee big thing was weakness and grogginess,,,,mostly from the Drugs....

But to answer your question, I went back to work, and back to the gym, after one week.....I had a one week follow up appointment with my Dr. and he cleared me at hat time....

I went back to work the next day. I sit most of the time. I wore an abdominal binder for about 2 weeks and a heating pad that really help. I could not get time of work and my surgeon said if I didn't get it done then, BCBC would make me start the 6 month documentation process all over again. I DID NOT want to start over. Everybody is different, but I didn't have much choice. I had surgery on a Tuesday. Worked Weds-Friday. Rested the weekend. I made it but I WOULD NOT do it again. My surgeon did not approve of this but he understood.

i work a desk job and had 8 off total.

my stomach was very sore and i was glad i was able to (rest)...i also had gallbladder surgery years ago and took 5 days i think..for me it was day 3 to 4 when my stomach let me know we had surgery on it...just ask your doctor and see what he advises on your job and lifting..as you can tell from the postings, everyone is different.

I've had surgery twice. The first time, one week off work was NOT enough. So when we did my revision surgery with plication (a surgery I thought was more drastic than the original) I took two weeks off, but could have easily gone back after three days. Each person is different and even each surgery is different!

Sorry to hear about your layoff. I have been a contract employee for over 3 years and just went direct with the company in January. My health problems have made me take too much time off, I hope I don't end up without a job.... But my health is much more important!!

The one thing that took me by surprise was that I was taking in very few calories after my banding, but didn't realize it because I felt great. Then about 3 or 4 days in, I ran out of sugar free popsicles and ran to the store to pick some up, by the time I got back to my car I was shaking with fatigue. I had to learn a whole new set of hunger signals those first couple of weeks.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
