My lap band to to iband, what ive learned so far....

Recommended Posts

So as of this morning im 14 days out of surgery. Im still very happy with my decision but I wish I would have been warned about the (painful) hunger pains seriously they are not easy to deal with at first :/ I had my follow up with Dr. G yesterday and It went great he looked at my incisions and took me off all restrictions which means no more liquid diet. Im to transition to solids and be tolerating everything by my first fill April 1st. Not sure why I get to transition so soon I can only think maybe because im a previous band patient but not sure. So anyone who doesnt know what the iband is, its where they fold the lower portion of the stomach, not banded in half and suture it. He told me the pains of hunger ripple through the new stitches and create that pain. I was told vsg patients have yhe same problem with the pains not sure if anyone else has been through it but I just wanted to share how I feel. Im down 18 pounds since 3 weeks ago today :-). I have good restriction just with the plication thats a huge reason I love it im able to only have 1/2-3/4 cup of food and feel very satisfied :) Can't wait till the first fill very happy with the decision I made just wish I knew about the hunger pains I was starting to think I was crazy!

I had the plication as well, and it does help with the hunger. Never had the pains though... guess I was lucky!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
