I'm ~6 months post op and haven't had a fill in 2 months but am feeling less restriction lately. I've been eating more calories, but generally ~1 to 1 1/4 cup portions. Thoughts? Thx!

Have you lost around your tummy area? That could be the reason for feeling less restriction.

I'm going in for a slight fill on Wednesday as I'm in the same situation as you at the moment. I'm still sticking to my portion sizes but am finding I'm looking for something to eat in between meals and not lasting the four or five hours as I have been in the past.

i wonder about that myself. i am 9 months w/no fill but even still, focused solely on my portion allotment and being very aware of my cal consumption and not go over more cals than i can burn off. i have read many posts that as people lose, their stomachs shrink/band gets loose.......now i have no idea if that is true or not but it could be. do you have an appt soon with your doctor? maybe as summer said, its time for a fill...

The medical information I have read says that when the band is originally placed, it goes around the top of the stomach, which is surrounded by a fat pad, so basically there is a layer of fat between the actual stomach wall and the band. As you lose weight, the size of the fat pad decreases even thought the stomach stays pretty much the same, so it is normal to feel less restriction after losing weight. That's why the band was made to be adjustable, so that it can be tightened to account for the loss of the fat pad to maintain restriction. You probably just need a small fill to get right back to where you were.

I think you're lucky. I have still never been in the green zone and I have ridiculous amounts of fill. But, until it works properly, I just keep seeing my doctor and relying on her care. Good luck!

I am too in the same boat. I had a fill at the end of Jan. But for the past week or so I feel like I have very little restriction. Everyone keeps referring to portion sizes and counting calories bit I was never told any such info. We were told that when we went on mushy foods we would only be able to eat about a 1/4 cup but nothing else. I am a little over 7 months out and my losing has slowed down dramatically!

As you feel less restriction, you may need additional fill. It is definitely a discussion to have with your doctor. He needs your feedback. Good Luck!

1/4 cup is unrealistic. An adult will be hungry even a bandster on that much food.

Just got back from my appointment and after a lengthy discussion with my fill doctor she decided to put in .2 cc. I'm still losing weight and have always weighed in with a loss at my monthly appointments but based on me now wanting to snack inbetween meals ( I didn't) I was given a very small fill to stay on top of my band.

I have an appt w/ my dr on the 29th. It's certainly up to me to mind my portions & in between Snacks. I shouldn't actually "feel" the restriction as its too late at that point.

@Carolinagirl - you are inspiring. I'm a bit envious, too. How do you do it?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
