no restriction - help!

Recommended Posts

I was banded in October...and i was losing weight steady until January.

Then I started feeling less restriction.

I went to clinic in february and they only put .3cc in my band. Since then I've hardly lost any weight and I feel I can eat anything I want as fast as I want. I never PB. Nothing ever feels stuck. Im worried. ..have I screwed this up?? I'm finding it hard to eat slowly and small bites when I have no restriction!

The band isn't supposed to force you to eat slower nor is it supposed to physically stop you from eating anything. If you're expecting it do this, you are at risk for accidentally getting your band too tight. What the band is supposed to do is keep you satisfied on less food for longer periods of time. It will always be up to you to control your portions, eating speed, and make good food choices.

Here's a link I think will help you: http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html

You also have to remember that fills don't result in weight loss, eating less calories than you burn is what results in weight loss. When you have adequate Fluid in your band it's a lot easier to do that because you're not always hungry or preoccupied with food, but the fills itself have nothing to do with physically losing weight.

Are you tracking calories? If not, I would, it would help assure you don't go over your daily calorie allowance.

Best wishes.

Thanks. ..I know I could definitely get better at counting calories although I'm really trying to make sure im getting my Protein in.

I think I'm just getting so frustrated because I'm getting hungry 2 hours after my last meal. That wasnt the case for my first couple if months after surgery.

Chances are, you need a fill. If you're taking large bites and eating quickly, though, you may be setting yourself up for trouble. Practicing good band habits even without restriction reinforces the behavior changes that help ensure long term success. Measuring, cutting up your food and stopping when you've eaten your allotted amount consistently is important, whether you're in the green zone or not.

As you lose weight, your stomach actually shrinks too because the fatty layer around it lessens. That's why you're suddenly finding yourself hungrier because your band is looser. I'm guessing even a small fill would help get back to a good point where hunger is controlled again.

I was banded on 12/31/13. I've only had one fill since. There are only 4cc in the 10cc band. I don't feel any restriction. Never been stuck. I've lost 30 lbs and rarely feel real hunger. I'm actually afraid to get another fill because I don't want to take a chance on it being too tight or causing complications. Hoping to leave it alone as long as I continue to lose 1-2 pounds a week. I really make an effort to watch everything I eat and had to change the way I think about food. I'm sure if I had more restriction, I might lose faster, but think I'll stay where I'm at for awhile. Best of luck to you. I hope you get where you need to be:-)

I don't take tiny bites. I use a baby spoon but the bites are not tiny. I rarely get stuck and my band is right where it should be. I would track all you eat and make notes by each meal how long it keeps you satisfied. Also make sure you are eating high Protein solids. Eating the right food is as important as getting a fill.

Did you end up getting a fill? I went today and they gave me .5cc.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
