Thinking about joining a gym/need inspiration...

Recommended Posts

I think that's a great idea!

I do yoga and body pump (weight training) classes at the gym. I also use the elliptical and treadmill. Remember NO ONE is there to look at you. Everyone is there to better themselves. I tried a spin class, but left during the first 10 minutes because my heart rate was ridiculously high (and dangerous). It was embarrassing to leave, but I had to do what's best for me! Also I just didn't enjoy the vibe--dark with black lights, strobe lights, loud music, couldn't hear the instructor, etc. I enjoy the other classes more. If you haven't been exercising, it might be better to start with a recumbent bike. The upright bike is more intense.

Without a gym, you still have options though. I live in South Texas, so I do alot of walking throughout the whole year. I also own a recumbent bike and ride that almost daily going up and down "hills" while watching Netflix. I also do a yoga video to help with strength and develop core strength. And circuit training videos like 30 day shred. So there's lots you can do at home.

As long as you are burning calories somehow!

I'm 1 year out, down 85lbs, 36 inches, 14 points on my BMI, and 6 clothing sizes!

I go to the YMCA which is very family oriented which I love. I can take my kids swimming and go down the hall for a class. I really learned to love the classes. I do zumba, elliptical, swimming, n weight lifting classes. I am 5 feet and 212 pounds (my highest weight was 252) n I have been going to the gym for about a year or two. I'm there to get healthier n I believe everyone else also not to look at the bigger person. There are bigger people than me n when I see them I feel happy for them cause they are trying just like I am. I have tried the spinning class n it was way too hard for me n only stayed for about 15 min., but riding a bike outside is a lot of fun. You may find something you really love there so I say go for it! Good luck on ur search

I took the tour yesterday and signed up. I had to get right back to work, so didn't get to stay and exercise. But today I am. Its not the nicest fitness center, I wasn't overly impressed. But its the only one in my area, so it will have to do. I also found that my insurance will reimburse me for a portion of the annual fee. I am excited and nervous to go today. But I know that after a few visits I will be feeling much more comfortable. Thanks everyone for your words of wisdom!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
