Left side pain in stomach and back

Recommended Posts

Hi there! Almost a week post op and returned to work today. It was good to be out of the house and feeling back to somewhat normal. I am already 20lbs down and people at work already noticed which was pretty cool. One thing I wanted to ask you all was, I notice that every time I "eat" ( I am still on liquids) I get an awful pain in my left side that radiates to my back. It's so painful that I usually need to lie down for a good hour before it goes away. I have tried walking and stretching and nothing seems to help aside from laying down. This happens every time I have anything - Water, smoothie, Protein Shake, anything.

Have any of you experienced that in your journeys? Thanks!

I had terrible pain in my back and between my shoulder blades for 3 weeks. Talked to dr. And it was the gas they put in your stomach. Mostly gone now week 4.

Make sure that you are sipping slowly. You have associated the pain with your eating so it may be that.

I had that too. It lasted about 5 weeks. My doc said its inflammation. Your body is still getting used to a foreign body inside and it could take some time to heal. Try some Tylenol 30 minutes before a meal. A few times a day to lower inflammation. Also try sipping some warm liquid prior to your liquid meal. It's soothing and the dr recommended that to me and it helped a lot! Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
