Recommended Posts

Hello everyone :) just wanted to post something real quick on here. Im currently pre-op and on day 8 of my 10 day diet before surgery. Its difficult but ive done it before because I am already banded 3 yrs. out I just never did it right, wasnt consistent, didnt follow rules and just wasn't ready but now that I am I found out a month ago I slipped it and have a small hernia as a result : /. Even in my first 5-6 months out from the band I got pregnant which I wouldnt change for anything but this is my 2nd. Chance to be on target and start a new. Im scared and excited to get this chance and wont take it for granted this time. Ive been on the phone between tricare and the hospital today getting pre-registered and getting my life prepared for this. If anyone has had the plication id love some advice but I just wanted to give a warm hello introducing myself :)

i have the plication along with the band.

it def helps me feel (full) quicker. its a wonderful thing

but my dr stressed that it was important for me to eat the correct

allotted portions, eat good food and exercise. so far, i have

no complaints. best thing i ever have done. (ps, i have tricare also).

best of luck to you

I'll be having lap band surgery in the next month, and I'm considering adding the plication. I would love to hear from others who have had it.

I'm considering have the plication done with my upcoming lap band surgery, and would love to hear more from others who had it done. I'm a little nervous; not about the band, but the plication. Wish there was more long term studies on it.

Kah1213 - How long was your recovery?

I had surgery on a Tuesday and I was back at work the following Monday. The worst was the gas on the 1st and 2nd nights. 2 weeks after surgery I felt pretty normal. Now, 9 months later, I've lost 55lbs and ran my first half marathon in January. I'm signed up to do another in April. I just started buying some new clothes that fit me instead of oversize sweaters! So, overall it's all worth it for me!

That's really good to hear... And congrats on the weight loss!! I know how good you must feel :)

I am leaning toward the plication as well. From everything I read, it's seems to minimize complications with the band; slipping, erosion, fills, etc. And I'm so glad to hear that you were back to work within a week. I did very well when I had my hysterectomy, so I expect the recovery on this will also go smoothly.

Have you had any fills? If so, how many.....how often?

Thanks for your input.

Everyone is different. I go see my doc each month, but I've only had 4 fills. I'm actually thinking of getting a small unfill next visit. It's a learning process.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
