I am a new member and will be getting ready for pre op soon. Has anyone had Dr. Kuri in Mexico perform your surgery? I am full of questions and concerns when reading some of the posts. I have been looking into this surgery for almost 3 years and I am scared. Are you not allowed to eat anything at first...I read about so many feeling starved and some have fills every month. Why is that needed?

Welcome Linakaw. My surgeon does not require a pre-op diet and after surgery I will only have 1 day of liquids and then right into mushies if tolerated. Each surgeon is different so you'll have to wait until you decide on a doctor. From what I have read not everyone gets fills that often. Some have only had one or two fills in a year, others have 3 or 4 in a year. It all depends on the persons ability to feel full for several hours. I'm going to be banded on Monday so I haven't had the experience of old time bandsters. I'm sure some of them will answer your post and give you better information. Continue doing your research, and look into some of the other threads, you will find a wealth of information on this forum. Don't be scared, if you choose this journey you will find a large family here eager to support you.

I wish you the best.

Roberta

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
