Tell me I'm crazy

Recommended Posts

I'm walking on the treadmill at least once a day, sometimes 3 times a day. But I haven't started lifting weights yet. After 20 years of gaining weight I just don't want to do anything to slow down the weight loss. Am I nuts? I've lost about 80lbs so far & got 50 to go.

Hard to tell Jim? You need to fill out your profile so we know more about your scenario?

80 lbs in one year is good, 80 is always good.

Exercise of any kind is good.

Weight training is very good for weight loss , the more lean muscle you have the more fat you burn :)

Lifting could conceivably slow down your weight loss, but not your fat loss. If you lift long enough you will replace fat with muscle as long as you continue your good diet practices.

well, then dont revert back to old habits that made us need WLS in the first place. that is what will make you gain...as long as you keep eating (well and it seems as if you are as you have lost 80 pounds) and exercising, you are well on your way..

You can always use weights ON the treadmill to crank up the intensity. Nothing crazy, 10-25 lbs and do curls, punches or shoulder presses on a steep incline intermittently. You may need to slow down your speed. a good way to jazz up your cardio!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
