Planter Faciitis

Does anyone have planter faciitis? I do & can't walk without horrible pain. I am scheduled for surgery May 10 & i hear everyone saying how you have to walk so much. I am just wondering how people with this problem were able to deal with it.

I have that too but I haven't had my lapband surgery yet. My doctor and physical therapist said stretching in the morning and having someone rub it out reduces the pain and they were right. Its helped me a LOT.

I had it but it went a way. JJ if it is constant pain for you, you might have to weight for some of the weight to come off to really walk. A physical therapist should be able to tell you what types of exercise you can do until you can walk.

A friend of my husbands had that and he went to this foot place called neovita. They make corrective arch supports for your shoes. My husband has a pair of them for his flat feet from there and they have really helped for both problems :confused: Good luck to you I know it is a painful issue.

I got Spinco arch supports (about $20.00 at medical supply stores) and it has made all the difference in the world. I literally had to tip-toe when I got out of bed in the morning. Now I have happy feet!

Ive often wondered what causes pain in my left heel and foot when I get up in the mornings. I looked this up and sounds similiar, thanks for the arch support info.

I found this neat device I am going to order on Foot Smart .com called Hot ‘N Cold Roller http://www.footsmart.com/Product.aspx?ProductId=102&cmx=Y&cm_re=xsell-_-bottom-_-1 its supposed to Reduce inflammation and increase blood flow.

I was also bothered by that for years. You can go to your pcp and he will inject a shot of cortizone. It usually settles it down in a couple of days. However, you have the problem for a reason and you have to take care of it so that once it settles down you won't get it back. I have to make sure that I have really good arches in my shoes or it flares up, and there is nothing more painful that that. I cannot wear just any old flip-flops ( I could live in sandals year round if I didn't live in Maine).

You have to look at your feet as a base like the foundation of a house. If you don't take care of your feet, your ankles, knees and hips can also pay the price.

I got this after a soccer injury years ago and yes, it is VERY painful. Thankfully, it only lasted for about a year. The best thing you can do (and was also told to me by the specialists) was to NEVER go bare feet and don't just wear any shoe. Be sure to wear good running shoes with good support. The trick is to wear them even in the house (get a new clean pair for in-house wear if you like). Keep them by your bed like slippers and put them on as soon as you get up. Without them, it can't heal and will only get worse each time you don't have the support.

I have had it in the past and it went away for a couple of years...now I have it again and it does make walking for exercise difficult. I even wear thin rigid arch supports in my slippers as well as my shoes, and that helps immensely. Got mine at Foot Smart for $15 or so.

I had it a few years ago. My foot doctor gave me a big ol' cortizone shot which made it feel better for awhile. He had special inserts made to put in my shoes. Then, I developed Tarpel Tunnel like Carpel Tunnel, but of the foot. I had surgery which cured it. I was still having some Planter Faciitis problems so he took out my blood, seperated it, then injected it into my problem area of my foot. That seem to do the trick. I still wear those darned inserts, but I have been pain free for 3 years now.

I too have had plantar faciitis in the past. I think that going barefoot at all is definately out!! I also found that the weight of heavy covers in bed at night hurt my feet. I startes wearing socks & keeping my feet out from under the blankets. Stretching with a rubber strap, and or rolling stretchers (even a tennis ball) while you are sitting help soooo much. Like the other bandsters, my just gradually went away.......Shoe choice is the key though -- no flip flops, keds, or other flat shoes................good luck!

Yes, plantar facisits is really painful! Arch supports really help, but i found that my podiatrist gave me exercises to do which really helped a lot! Ask your doctor for some exercises. they are simple to do and really help a lot.

and yes, no bare feet. i found birkenstocks for sandals are ok after your plantar facisits (sp) has calmed down. most of the time, arch supports are needed in your tennis shoes. good support shoes are a must, i have found. you could swim or ride a bike until the plantar facisitis improves!

I have it also and perfer the ellipitical machine at the gym since your foot doesn't land with each movement. Mine is getting better and I'm also walking a few times a week but if I walk everyday it really bothers me.

The ellipitical doesn't hurt at all.

My SIL has this, and her podiatrist had inserts made for her shoes....they ended up looking exactly like the footbed in Birkenstock sandals...so she bought the sandals and tried them, and now wears them year round. When I herniated the L4-L5 at the S-1 station in my back, she had me buy a pair, and the sciatic pain was gone in hours. They may not be as pretty as some others, but it worked! If my back is hurting I will put my sandals on, and it just sort of realigns me....I use a pair as houseshoes...slippers...

Every now and then you can get them cheap at Ross or even on ebay...it might be worth a try. Hope your feet feel better soon!

My inserts are psychedelic green, and my right one is thicker then my left one. I wish they were black or brown so they would blend in better. I can't wear sandles because they show too much and slip out the back. Forget about dress shoes. I can wear a clog like shoe as long as it has enough lip on the back to keep my inserts from falling out. I also have to wear a larger shoe because of the inserts. My favorite brand of shoes now is Munro. I get them at Nordstrom's.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
