during my initial consult my doc recommended plication. Now that I am approved the doctor is no longer doing plication. Should I choose another surgeon????

He Probably won't do the plication because insurance doesn't cover it (application is still a fairly new procedure so some insurances won't cover it)

This was the reason why I didn't do plication

**just having the plication** wont magically make you lose weight its just an added (bonus).

so get the band, work it as instructed and do it

there are many success stories on here with people (not plicated) who are successful.

Can someone explain to me what plication is?

Placation is when they fold your stomach in half and sew it that way with permanent stitches to make it half its size !!! I had my lap band with plication nov 1st and have lost 94 pounds its awesome .

I had the band done with plication done at Duke June 11 2011. I love it because i always have some restriction. My Dr. said they were ordered to stop doing it until there were more studies proving the benefit of doing the band this way. Every center that does the band must have certain certifications and must have done so my for the insurance company to pay for the surgery. My Dr said they should be able to do the band with plication again soon. Another benefit of this type of surgery, it stops the band from slipping. Hope this helps you.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
