Just Got Banded On April 11th

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am a new member to this site and not sure if I am in the right place to post. I was just banded on Tuesday April 11th, I was wondering? I don't feel hungry at all and can bearly drink the 4oz of shakes every other hour combined with the 4oz of Water every other hour. I have lost a total of 37pounds since I started the pre op liquid diet. Is this a normal feeling to have post op?

Any suggestions on what I should do I am supose to start the (baby food) that what I call it tomorrow but don't think I can!

:help:

Hi there -

I felt the same way after surgery. Not hungry at all.

Great job on the 37lbs. I think thats great. Keep up the good work and keep your head up.

FEL0816--It's normal to not feel hungry...I actually prayed that the Lord would keep the hunger away as long as He would!!!!! I just made sure that I wasn't dehydrated!! Just go at your own pace...I couldn't even consider taking 4 oz every other hour....so your doing pretty good! You will get hungry...hang in there!

God Bless,

Melody

Banded 3/20/06 -31lbs :)

I was just wondering if you lucky folks that were not hungry the days following surgery, had followed a strict pre-op diet? I was lurking around reading different threads, and someone actually said they were not pre-op dieting so they would not be hungry following the surgery. Just wondered if you did a strict preop? Thanks!

Hi kat

I had to follow a strick diet of liquids and only 2-3 fruits or veggies a day 3-4 weeks pre-op. But I believe that every doc that does the surgery has different things they want their patient to follow.

Right, I understand they all do it differently. But was glad to hear that you too had a pre-op diet similar to mine. Maybe I will be as lucky as you were concerning the hunger! Continued good luck!!!

Kat,

You will be as lucky, you just got to stay positive and tell your self that you are doing this for you not anyone else. I don't consider myself lucky in the way of losing the weight, I consider my self lucky cause of the support I have from both this web site and my family and friends. I will keep you in my prayers keep on trucken as my newphew will say.

I already feel extremely lucky, I too have a large support group here, My husband and kids are behind me 100%. A few of my friends were a little unsure about it, I told them to ask me anything they wanted...and they did!! But they then realized I had researched it well, and was going to do it! Now they are all on board! I have several people I know who have had it done already, so that too should help. And I know having you and others on this board will be one of the best forms of support I could have found anywhere! I am soooo glad I did find it!!!

I love yourname!!! I am one week postbanding and also the same as you, I am really struggling to get the liquids down, not the Water bit, just the shakes and soup..............I can't help feeling that such little nutrients can't be very good for you. Nice not to be hungry, but just concerned I am not getting enough in me...........doesn't the body stop losing weight when you eat too little and your metabolism go down???

Good luck with things

Amourette!!!;)

Amourette, Thank you have a nice name as well. You are right about the metabolism and stuff. I just went this monday to see my doc and since the surgery I have come to lose 21pds with a total weight lose of 45pds. I told my doc about not feeling hungry and he told me the same thing you said. He told me even if I am not hungry I still have to eat. Since then I have started to eat a very little and I don't feel as run down as I did before. Now I am starting to feel a little more hungry. So if you can do what I just started to do this week then you will be fine. Just eat a little bit at a time and you will be fine.

Good Luk with everything

Felicia

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
