I was just banded Wednesday & immediately started having doubts. Is this normal? I was never worries about something going wrong with the band down the road when I was per-op. There was never any doubts that this is what I wanted. So I don't know if its because of all the pain, but now I am worried, I don't want to have to do this again should something go wrong with the band. I'm worried I may have made a mistake. It's all so real now. Anyone else go through this?

Yes ,totally. Your thoughts were my thoughts. I was banded a little over 2 months ago and don't give it a second thought now. It has changed my life and I'm glad I did it.

yes I was banded on 1/15... the first week or so I thought what in the world was I thinking? but after healing and being pain free, I feel good. I have lost 25 lbs and have more energy than I have had in years... the adjustment to a new way of eating and thinking about food will come and you will be happy that you had the surgery... Keep your eye on the prize as my mother used to say and you will think differently ... I will be getting my first fill on Monday and I am looking forward to moving on to a new phase.

you are a smart girl who made a excellent choice to make herself well...congrats to you. you are currently healing from major surgery and need to rest and let your body get back to normal. your feelings will go up and down...i know mine sure did as to WTF was i thinking? but i remembered, this tool..is gonna help me walk again and lose weight..think of the big overall picture.

no need to doubt if you listen to your doctor and do what they advise you to do. you can do it sweetie. i promise.

A dear friend who I confided in about my surgery related that several of her friends had "surgery" and were initially very happy with the results. However, over time they all reverted back to their original way of eating and "stretched out their stomachs", returning to pre-surgical weight.

I am confused as to how this is even possible? I certainly understand if you exist on high calorie "slider food" and deliberately try to eat around the restriction the band provides, but this just seems so willful and possibly painful that I can't imagine it. Is this as prevalent as my friend portrayed it? I thought this was more of an issue with gastric bypass (Carnie Wilson) but that the adjustability of the band would prevent much of this. Am I wrong?

ABSOLUTELY!! I asked the same thing after my surgery on January 30th. Day 4 was my turn around day when I started to feel better about it. On day 2 I even told my husband "if I had it to do all over again, I would NEVER have done this!". I am sooo happy that going back in time is not a possibility....lol! I am down 18 pounds and feel great!! Hang in there. It DOES get better....I promise!!

I've had 5 friends who have had the band (I just got banded yesterday) and only 1 of my friends have lost and then gained it back. It's all about self control and discipline and communicating with your Dr. If you find yourself getting hungry you may need to get a fill. If you get a fill and find that you can't eat solid food then your band is too tight. This seems to be the main cause for people to start gaining. You can't eat ice cream for every meal and expect to keep losing...

No - I'm not worried about it not working, I know what I need to do & that his is just a tool. I'm worried about it slipping or something & have to go thru this again.

I admit I have never thought about it slipping. I am doing what I need to in order to help it. I feel me worrying about something that may or may not happen wont do anything but cause me to go even more nutso that I already am. You are gonna do fine.

I am exactly like you. I never had doubts beforehand. After I had it done I was like "what the hell have I just done to myself. I am 3 weeks out now, mostly healed and down 21 pounds and I feel really good. Those feeling of what I saw someone call "buyer's remorse" were very real at the beginning but thank goodness they didn't last long. Hope you feel good about your decision soon!

I also had the "what the hell have I done to myself" thoughts that first week. You're on an emotional roller coaster the first couple of weeks. Now 8 months out and 87 pounds down, I can say without a doubt it's the best thing I've ever done for myself. It hasn't been easy, I've pushed myself harder than I ever thought I could, but it's been an amazing journey!

I did go through this the first time I was banded. I thought, holy crap, I had something foreign implanted in my body that has screwed me for life (or as long as I kept it in). But as I healed from surgery, and the band completely melted into the background (before my first fill) I started going back to my previous habits and did not lose weight. I then got angry because I thought it, like everything else I ever tried to do, had failed. But once I got the magic fill, the entire world changed. Literally. I lost 100 lbs effortlessly. And I could not love my band more, and I've had 8 years of leaks and disconnects!! I was just rebanded on Monday, finally...and no regrets this time. I know what's in store for me....a size 8 for the first time in my life!
