I am so dis outraged now. I went through all of my pre surgery psych eval etc. only to find out now that I have to do the 6 mo supervised diet. Now what! I feel like I should just take out my savings and get a loan for the remaining amount. I just want this to be over so I can start my new life. I know I'm being a spoiled brat Bout this diet but I'm ready! Anyone else with this problem? What did u do? And what do they expect from you during the 6 months? I don't want anything to stand in the way of me and my band!

I can totally relate to how you feel! The 6 month diet absolute made me NUTS!

Just try taking it one day at a time and use this time to educate yourself even more.

I would be frustrated too. I had to do my supervised 6 month diet before I was even allowed to see the surgeon, and I finally got my date 3/4 after 10 MONTHS of appointments and paperwork. Hang in there, better late than never is how I looked at it.

The supervised diet was just for recording and documentation purposes. I neither gained nor lost when I was on this diet, just went through the motions.

Because I followed all the rules, my band will covered by my insurance, so I get a whole new life, and no debt to take with me there.

I would have done ANYTHING to have my insurance pay for any of my surgery! Why do the 6 months have to be a waste of time? Most of us have been able to lose weight, it's the keeping it off for long periods of time that we struggle with! Why can't you tell yourself your going to start with eating right, learning why you over eat, and learning about nutrition, and starting to exercise!?? These are things your going to have to know and do with the band! It's just giving you a head start! Being in better shape will definitely help with your recovery process after surgery! I had to work 2 and 3 jobs for over a year to save up for my band. I started out at 297 and had got to 267 by the day of my surgery! I didn't continue my bad habits until I got the band! The day I said "I've had enough" is the day I started doing something about it, not the day I got the band! Start NOW, absorb all the information about the band, about nutrition and about exercise! Even if you think you already know it all, learn more! Your long term success depends on it! I wish you all the best, be patient it will come faster than you think!

Does your doctor require meeting with an eating disorder therapist? I thought the appointments would be a huge waste of time and boy was I wrong. Do to other health issues my surgery was delayed for 7 months. I used that time to really get it in a good place mentally and develop new eating habits. It's easy to see surgery as the finish line. In reality this is the start of the rest of your life. You should use this 6 months to develop new eating habits and exercise habits. Trust me I know how hard that wait can be. I was about 6 days from surgery when it ended up being delayed for 4 months.

I ended up paying for it myself. My husband and I sat down and talked about what the excess weight was costing. How much life we are missing out on etc. It was painful to pay for it, but what is more important in life than our health? One little thing that might make you feel better about being self pay, You can schedule your surgery ASAP... AND, my doctor said that a study shows that self pay people actually end up losing more .

But that 6mths turned out to not only go by quickly, but was the time I got the best education of my life, right here on LBT.com.

There are so many who jump right into surgery and they really have no clue what to expect. They think they do, but their habits say otherwise.

If I was you, I'd let the insurance pay for it and take the time to learn all the does and don'ts of lap band living.

Save your loan money for tummy tucks, boob lifts or face lifts.

My insurance also required a 6 month monitoring program. I spend that time just trying to learn new habits...i.e, eating slowly....no soda, etc. I didn't lose a significant amount of weight but it really gave me some time to do some soul searching. Can I do this? Do I want it bad enough? I worked out the kinks. And when I was sooo ready I couldn't take it anymore....my surgery date came around quickly and I will be banded on Thursday! It seems like a long time....but even had I had the cash to self-pay....I would have still been better off going through the 6 month motion! Good luck!

@laurigee you know what? My psychologist i saw said the same thing! Wow!!! I have been trying changing my ways and eat right but keeping it off yes that's hard. I'm actually open now to learning more after about the band lifestyle so I am successful. I'm going to continue with my therapist to get down to the core of why I eat when I'm bored or just because so yea maybe this six month wait will do me some good.

@honk. Wow now that would have really hurt me if I got that close only to be told I have to wait. I'm not requires to see a eating disorder therapist but electively I am because even though I don't make myself throw up when I eat I do have the disgusting feeling and mentally don't like the feeling I have when I'm full. So I am going to continue with the psychology. We spoke of these things and I have to say that. Things that happen to me in my childhood may be a result to why I let myself become overweight. I guess if I wasn't attractive that would solve a lot but now that I am an adult with a new life career etc. I'm just ready to take the bull by the horns and go

Yea. I do want to learn more and develop healthy ways but I do want the band now. I'm glad u understand what I'm saying in my post. It's not that I just want the band and move on doing the same bad eating I want the tool box so I can start building with all the Instructions. Thank u.

Omg! I didn't think about after I lose the weight what to do with loose skin etc. awwww I better save my loan and savings to Celebrate. Besides I'm paying my insurance good money to put me through this trouble lol
