Newbie to both the lap band and using a site like this...HELP

Recommended Posts

Good morniing,

I am new to my band (Dec 11th) and to using a site like this...yes, tech is not my strength. I have been obese since childhood although I was a 2 pound preemie. Have tried all the diets as many of us have. I have lost 14 lbs since my surgery and had my first fill Friday. I am a little freaked out because the last two nites I have been "grazing"...not hungy, just looking to eat. I don't want to slip into this downward spiral. Help with this an dusing the site!

Welcome to the forum.

You fit right in with the rest of us. Try and remember what got you to obesity in the first place. Wrong food types, eating late, eating too much and doing what you want lifestyles. Have so SF popsicles, SF jellos (I buy the jellos in different flavors ) ready to eat cups from Walmart. They are not very expensive and they curb my appetite. I have frozen crystal light flavors mixed with Water and made an ice cream out of it.

Exercising will help somewhat, walking, treadmill if you have them. Playing on computer and keeping your mind occupied also helps. Try and think of your future goals and important your health is.

Best wishes and keep on track. YOU can do it!

Receiving fills will help you feel more satiated and may cut down on the head hunger. Make sure your band is working for you.

Try to find healthy Snacks if you're a grazer. It's better to not graze but if you must, eat healthy. I munch on pickles, cucumbers, beef Jerky, chicken salad, apples, cutie oranges, pears, blueberries.

It will come with more fills and you get into the zone...most of the head hunger will go away with them but not all...the brain has had yrs of eating this is a shock to it and tskes time to retrain...find out when you can get snother fill most people fine that if their band is just over half full they find the zone 6.5 cc in a 10cc band was my zone and a very common place to be .

Thanks for the responses. I'm just scared that i will fail at this too. Trying to wrap my head around a new lifestyle. Only have 3 cc at my first fill. Overall I feel great. I do well during the day, nites are more difficult but will definately stock the house with the better choices. Now to help with learning how to use this site!

The site? What's to know? Just click on anything. No one's going to bite you. If you need help, click on my picture, send me a message of what you are trying to do and I'll point you in the right direction?

Thanks for the responses. I'm just scared that i will fail at this too. Trying to wrap my head around a new lifestyle.

Here's a comment from someone else who had lapband surgery:

" In my case, the most fearful thing I had to do in order to succeed with my band wasn't switching to skim milk, surviving a liquid diet, or giving up bread. The most fearful thing was giving up my emotional attachment to food. In the nearly 5 years since I was banded, I've made a lot of progress with that, but the attachment is still there. It forms one of the innermost layers of my turtle shell. Working on that layer will probably be a lifetime job for me. At times I'm not even sure I truly want to get rid of it altogether. At times I'm afraid that if I shed my shell completely, I won't be able to survive. On the other hand, I seem to be doing fine without that thick old b***h layer. So I'm going to pay attention to my dreams rather than my fears and pray for a miracle. And why not? It can't hurt to try!"

"Pay attention to your dreams rather than your fears" No need to dwell on the past. This is your future.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
