too tight

Recommended Posts

I had my third fill on monday and boy was it too tight!!!! i called my doctor yesterday and told him i had been throwing up any solids that i eat, had horrible stomach pain and bad heartburn. he said my band was too tight. i went today and he took out 0.5cc and i felt relief and the pain was gone. The only problem is now i can eat and when i do i feel so guilty about it because i am afraid i will end up eating too much and gain back the weight that i have lost. my support system is not that great because my support had her band done and told me that i can not handle the band since i thought it was too tight and needed an adjustment she told me that i should not be able to eat hardly anything at all. she throws up all the time and makes poor food choices. I am just in a slum right now. I have lost 30lb since i was banded on the 26th of september so i must be doing something right!!!!!!

Your band should not make you throw up. Throwing up is BAD! Sometimes just a half cc will make all the difference. The doc did not empty your band. You still have it. You should be on liquids after a fill or unfill though to avoid irritation.

Everyone is different, you know your body better than anyone. Throwing up constantly is a sign that the band isnt being used properly and they will have to face those consequences eventually. Definitely look for another support system. I had to do the same. My support system was constantly comparing themselves with me and it became a competition for them. I am in no way running a marathon in this weightloss journey. I find my best support at my Doctors office, that is no reflection on anyone here. I find alot of advise and encouragement here. I just have an awesome staff at my dr's office I can lean on when needed.

I agree about the liquids...I just had a 3rd fill today and I was put on liquids for up to 2 days and soft for 3-4 days after to avoid issues.

Your friend is definitely wrong. Being in a good place with your band does not mean by vomiting! Your doctor was right to do a small unfill. You need to be able to eat 3 ounces Protein weighed Plus some vegetables. That is more than just a few bites. I wish people including some on the site wouldn't say that having the band mean that do you have 2-3 little bites and you're done eating. We are adults and we eat adult size portions. Remember normal weight people eat more than 2-3 bites at a meal.

You should be able to eat!!! I hope you change your thoughts on food! Guilt and fear towards food are not good when your trying to change your lifestyle and outlook on food! Know the amount of calories your able to consume per day, write down everything you eat, and exercise. Sounds like your support is using her band as a fad diet and hasn't changed anything! This sounds like a sure fire way to fail in the long run! If she continues to use her band like she is, she may have problems and have to have the band removed. Where will she be then? She's learned nothing and changed nothing! Do it right!! It may take longer, but you will be able to say "you get it", and once you "get it", long term success is almost a guarantee!

I know exactly how you feel, my band was to tight and I had to have some Fluid taken out. Now I'm able to eat things that I caouldn't eat before and more of them and then I feel so guilty. I go back on the 4th of Feb. to have a fill. I really don't like having fills, but I need some restriction :) I wish you the best and I hope that you are able to find you another support system.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
