Hi

I have been banded for 9 months. I have not had a situation where I eat something and it gets "stuck" as people describe stuck being painful. Pardon the following, it is pretty graphic and gross:

What I do get sometimes is a food that I JUST swallow feels like it will not move beyond the upper part of my throat and then within 5 minutes it has to come flying back out (usually encased in mucous - so I really do mean flying!). This always happens with bread products (bread, noodles, etc.) The other circumstance I get food seems to be ok, and then one bite goes down and I can tell "this isn't going to work", it feels like I am getting a sour stomach. WIthin 10-15 minutes of this I throw up - not violent vomitting, but bend over toilet and out comes food in waves.

Is this somethings that happens to others? Or is this 'getting stuck' and I am just not understanding other people's descriptions?

If anyone can let me know.... thanks

I cannot eat bread for this reason, I get stuck. When I get stuck, not so much lately but when it does happen, it doesn't come flying out, I usually hurt and salivate with slime then it will come back up. In times past this can take a few mins or hrs. I can remember early on I got stuck on broccoli and was stuck for 5 hrs, thought I was going to die! Also, you mentioned noodles, my surgeon told me no rice, Pasta, or bread.

call your dr and let them advise you.

they'd be the best ones to answer your question about if its normal or not.

I have that same "Oooops" Feeling, sometimes on the first Bite. I know all about the regurge You are talking about. My Stucks are Painful. I get this Panicky Feeling too.

Believe me, we have talked about it and adjusted fills. Every once in a while I am so hungry I take too big of first bite and don't chew enough. My wife takes one look at my face and she knows what happened. Oooops. I don't even try pizza any more, or rice really hits me too. Forget about french fries. My Doctor says that everyone is a bit different in this aspect. I gained back about 12 pounds since October or so. I know it is the candy and being too busy for my work outs.

You know, I had stuck moments early on (even before my first fill) w/ meat that was too dry and it was agonizing and painful and I was literally foaming at the mouth like a rabid dog. However, now after 3 fills and feeling like I am pretty much "in the zone" and have much more restriction, I don't have pain persay. Recently, when food didn't want to go down, it just made me nauseous and the food came back up or I helped it back up as I couldn't take the uncomfortable nausea any longer. I think the nausea and/or vomiting is the result of being "stuck". Granted this doesn't happen often but I just think the "stuck" sensation changed for me after getting fills. Weird and gross but my modesty was lost about 6 months ago when I got banded! ;) Can't say I ever had the projectile issue though.... Still, would talk to your doctor though as this is just my experience and I am certainly not medically qualified.

I'm a newbie and I'm still on mushy soft foods so i have not had an experience on regular food yet and I have not had a first fill yet.. I'm losing wt anyway.. I'm down 27 lbs since surgery on dec 17th.. My question to the seasoned banders is how bad is bad on the pain scale when food gets stuck? I FEAR this badly! Is it like omg I need a hospital pain or is it uncomfortable and annoying pain? Thanks Guys!

That will vary from patient to patient? Depends on your threshold to pain and how badly you're stuck. For me on a scale of 1-10 it was maybe 2, 3 tops. It's mostly just uncomfortable for me.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
