Before and After Lap Band Surgery - PICTURES ONLY
Me at about 312, just had my 3rd Child who I am holding and he inspired me. This is me at the Moab Half Marathon, coming out of the Porta Potty at 244. Ran it in about 2:30. I am no Kenyan, but it was a Win.

getting stuck
Believe me, we have talked about it and adjusted fills. Every once in a while I am so hungry I take too big of first bite and don't chew enough. My wife takes one look at my face and she knows what happened. Oooops. I don't even try pizza any more, or rice really hits me too. Forget about french fries. My Doctor says that everyone is a bit different in this aspect. I gained back about 12 pounds since October or so. I know it is the candy and being too busy for my work outs.

long distance running lapbanders ..a question...
Before my Surgery I had never ran more than 100 Yards without someone yelling at Me. I haven't experienced what You mentioned, but it may have been your version of a "Stitch" in Your Side. One thing about running that I have noticed. I run late at night and if I don't allow my entire dinner to move well past my band, I regret it. Especially Tacos. Ouch. I am starting the training for my 3rd Half Marathon. Being able to do it makes the surgery worth it in every way.

You all have been warned....
I had to get a smaller Concealed Weapon when I got Thinner. I went from a Springfield XD 9mm Subcompact to a Micro Desert Eagle 380. No Pink for me so far.

still deciding
I Vomit from time to time, but believe me when I say you are WAY better off dropping that weight to be there for Your Children.

PreOp was the Worst. Protein Drinks. I wish someone would have warned me to include some FIBER.

I took a Zumba class last night.....
I started to run. First it was 5Ks, 10Ks and finally Half Marathons. I don't compare my times or pace to people of my same age or gender, what motivates me is that NO ONE Heavier than me is Faster than Me. I'll never be a Kenyan at 250 and 6'5" and when I see pictures of me running, I can't believe how unphotogenic I am. LOL.

What kind of eating disorder do you have?
I am a chronic sleepwalker and sleep eater. The NES sounds like me to the T. Now that my calories during the day are more restricted, I seem to crave sugar even more at night. I wake up 4 to 5 times to eat chocolate chips, Peanut Butter, whatever goes down easy. Has anyone tried the melatonin supplements. I started at 310 and I am now at 260. I was under 245 this time last year as I prepared for a Half Marathon. The Holidays kicked my Butt.

Unintended Shrinking
I seem to have Decompressed. At 22 I was 6'6". At 35 I barely hit 6'5". With 34 less pounds, my postures has signifigantly changed and maybe my spine straightened and has decompressed. I have almost made up that inch I lost. I lost fat from the tops of my feet, which make all my shoes fit funny.

Return To Golf?
Ooops, found this thread after I started my own. Does this sound like slippage? Golf and the Band Questions permalink I have been about 60 days since my Band with No Complications to speak of. I went Golfing last week and I have a little muscle pain that persisted under my ribs on the left side. It is were I "imagine" my banded part of my stomach is. The day after I golfed I got a small fill, which seemed to increase the muscle pain in that area. My question is if a Golf Swing like Motion can do any damage to the band itself and the tubes it is attached too. Maybe I am being paranoid, but all of my other muscle pain has completely subsided.

When did you see the difference?
I sure my Muscles would start popping out. Thanks for the info Brad.

When did you see the difference?
One more thing from your post before, you mentioned that a weight loss as "large" as mine in this time frame would make it impossible to add muscle. That was sort of the point, I only lost 1.75 pounds in 3 weeks net. I could measure it with a tape and see it in the mirror and my clothes. I can't think of anything within the rules of physiology that would make this impossible.
-
When did you see the difference?
Why would it not be possible to simultaneously add muscle and lose body fat at the same time? It would actually seem like the natural thing that would happen on a lower calorie, high Protein diet with regular exercise. My food logs have me averaging about 1700 calories a day of mostly protein. This is over my ideal calorie intake, one reason why I got another 1.5cc fill. I have been doing a signifigant amount of hiking and mountain biking along with walking. My body measurements are down signifigantly everywhere except my calves and for some reason my shoulders. My calves are up a half inch. I saw your pictures, congratulations you look great. It is hard for me to believe that you did not increase your muscle mass, even as you lost weight?
-
When did you see the difference?
I did a double take on that too. I asked my doctor how my pounds of fat loss exceeded my total weight loss. He explained that I had gained a few pounds of muscle. He illustrated it using my Fat Percentage. So more than just losing weight, my body was changing in composition. My lean body mass had increased very slightly and my fat percentage had dropped quite a bit.

When did you see the difference?
Got my second Fill Today, I am almost 2 months post Op. I have been getting lots of exercise and activities. Dusted off my Bike, etc. I have only lost 2 pounds the last 2 weeks. I started at 305 and I am hanging out at 280. My first fill was only .5 CC, got a 1.5 CC today for a total of 2 CC. I feel and look like I have lost more weight than the scale says, but it definately has me bummed out a bit. I do crave Sugar. I am hoping that I put on muscle. I'm wondering if more people know there Body Fat Percentage. I wonder if this is a good and accurate "NSV". I am down from a whopping 41% of 305 which is 125 Pounds of Fat to 35% of 280 (which is 98 pounds). Wondering if anyone else thinks about it in this way?
-
When did you see the difference?
NSV is exactly what I need. Thanks!
-
When did you see the difference?
What does NSV stand for? Thanks!

When did you see the difference?
Other people seemed to notice first. I am down 25 from 305, but I am a tall guy. I can tell you where I feel it. My energy, stamina, lack of horrible heartburn and my belt. I have learned to buy the cheapest belt I can find. I used to always have a couple nice brown and black belts. I bought one that was reversible, hoping that I would not need it long. My feet! I never thought my feet were chubby, but all of the sudden my shoes were loose across the tops of my feet. I thought someone was playing a joke on me at first. I hit my first "runner's high" last night (while walking, lol!) but I will take it. I just wish more would leave my stomach area, my Butt has disappeared, and it wasn't too big a problem to start with.

50 Days in and I have a couple of Questions......
One more thing. My debilitating Heart Burn that I had preop is completely gone and my slight asthma is almost completely gone.

50 Days in and I have a couple of Questions......
Jack, thanks for the Advice! When I got home last night from work I ended up going for a 5 Mile Walk, something I have probably never done. I did it at a brisk pace and even hit my first "runner's high", walking. It's a little pathetic, but I will take it. I think I figured out my gaseousness, the night before I had a double dose of Citrucel and it says that it doesn't cause Gas, but for me, it Obviously does. I am seeing the loss in the mirror, my clothes, my stamina and energy level. Also, people are noticing a ton too. I am going to try to weigh myself maybe only once a week. I just don't want to fail, since everything else I have done in the weightloss arena has ended with me gaining the weight back. Regards, Thor
