Since banding I've experienced something exactly opposite of what I expected - boundless energy. This is not just during the day, either. I haven't managed 3 hours sleep in any night since my surgery. I lay in bed about ready to jump out of my skin and finally drop off around 4 or 5 AM. I get up feeling tired but it's because I think I SHOULD be tired rather than actually being tired. I've always been a napper (poor sleep is something I've lived with) and now I can't even manage that!

I love the change but am a bit concerned. Sleep is important if, for no other reason, than to dream and I'm just not sure I'm getting enough.

Anyone else dealing with this?

Hi Ted, I went through a bout of pretty severe insomnia shortly after my surgery. I didn't have the boundless energy though, I was completely exhausted. I went through a couple of months of not being able to fall asleep until about 4:30 am. I ended up going to the dr and trying a couple of different sleep meds until I found something that worked. I took them for a couple of weeks until my body reset itself. I still take them occasionally. I think that was the only real issue I had after the surgery.

i had this problem too during the first 2 weeks...I still don't sleep much 3rd week out but its getting better. It's weird too because I am in Alaska and it's dark all winter = mostly all I wanna do is sleep :)

I've had trouble sleeping post surgery (I'm writing this at 12.47am with no sign of dozing off soon!) although I've gone through bouts of insomnia pre surgery as well. I found an iPhone app called Silva Relax that has helped me either get to sleep or on some of the worse nights, cleared my mind to help me rest, even if its not an actual sleep.

Doc also recommended no caffeine after lunch, although I've not found much difference.

More and harder exercise will definitely help - I can't believe I'd forgotten how much I used to depend on that.

As for the app, never heard of such a thing but if I can get it on my Droid I'll sure be happy to give it a shot.

Thanks all!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
