Hi All,

Well, I'm on the 4 week countdown til my Surgery, it is on Feb 4th. Typing this, my belly just did a somersault; I'm nervous, scared, excited. I have about 85 pounds to lose. I have lost weight and gained weight etc, the roller coaster.

Any one else getting banded on the 4th???

Hi Doggylover,

Well, we shall go thru it together :) Yes, do get to Quebec as well. I'm anxious in a good way too. Question, are you having to pay out of pocket? Or did your insurance cover some?

Hi Doggylover,

My insurance covers everything. We have "Assurance Maladie du Québec". But you need referal by a doctor and have health issues related to obesity. For example for me it was borderline high blood pressure (not high enough for medication thank god) and a history of diabetes in my family. As for now I was "sugar intolerant" but not diabetic yet (thank god for that too!). They consider that giving you this operation costs less than a life supply of meds, which I agree. So for that, it has been a blessing for me....

And I was refered by my Endocrinologist. I also have PCOS and treating obesity can improve PCOS symptoms as well. With PCOS its even harder to loose weight!

But, i'm confident that getting this operation can only help and improve my life and health.

Hi everyone. I am brand new to this site so pardon my ignorance. I am having surgery on Feb 1st and go for my preadmission testing tomorrow! I had insurance cover since my BMI is just over the 40 mark. I have struggled with weight for 10 years now. I have always been bigger but not significantly until college. My highest weight was 298 and I went down to 206 in 2008/2009. Since then, it has been a slow uphill (story of my weightloss/gain life). I am trying to take control of my life now. I am so excited but I am so nervous to fail. I feel like if I don't succeed at this, my hope will be gone. Like...what happens then? I should probably go into this more positively but it doesn't help that I have been failing at it for 10 years. Any advice or good vibes are much appreciated!!!!

I understand were you are coming from. Weight has been an issue for me also for the past 10 years or so. Personally I have a different approach. I’m convinced this will work for me. Remember this is a tool and its your job to use it propely. And honnestly, what do you have to lose?? Its better to have tried and failed than never tried at all. Maybe when you’ll see the weight come off it will give you that boost you need to keep going ??

Keep reading posts and success stories on this site, it will give you encouragement. I know it did it for me. If others did it, why couldn’t I ??

I just assumed it was my browser causing issues ;)

So when did you get banded? Your weight and mine ar every close - how tall are you? I am 265 and 5'6''. My goal weight is 170. I know that is higher than most people but I got down to 177 when I was 20 and I was pretty happy.

I am not banded yet, I should get banded in the first or second week of Feb. I'm 5'9'' and currently at 260 (was 275). My goal weight would be 160-165. As for me, my happiest weight was at 160-170. But I have been at my lowest at 138 (which is too skinny since i'm tall and big boned).

I'm 5"5 and 230 pounds; I would like to get to 145-155. This site is very helpful for inspiration!

I agree. I also get a lot of tips and information to complete what the doc told me so far. I’m one of those people that when I get to the doctors office, they talk for ½ hour than I come out of the office and forgot half of it! This way, if I have a question, or something I dont remember, I come here and almost always find a answer. :)

Well, I had my pre-admission testing yesterday. I did a urine sample, blood test, chest xray and EKG. I signed all of the paperwork and I am good to go for Feb 1. So excited! I have to do a low fat diet for one week prior to surgery but that is it. I have been trying to eat healthy anyway so I am not worried about it. Did you guys go already?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
