Give me your best "how I did it" lines!

Recommended Posts

Oy vey. I'm going to a function on the 29th of this month where I will see people I used to work with, but most of whom I haven't seen since before my banding. No one there knows anything about it, and the last time they saw me I had just had my first child (and weighed my highest). There will be LOTS of questions, and while I'm happy to share my story with friends, I don't really want to go into details with lots of former work acquaintances.

HELP! I'm looking for that perfect one-liner that says a) thanks for noticing; :) it was lots of hard work; c) I did have medical help (in case anyone sincerely wants to know more for themselves or a friend); but d) don't feel like spilling my guts to you who hasn't bothered to keep in touch since I left this job 6 years ago); and e) that can be tossed off with a gracious smile.

Any ideas? :)

I just hope I can get to the point one day when I have to think about what line to use!!! Waaaaay to go!

Hmmmmm, lets see....how about "what's it to ya"? hehe...nah, just kidding, ya might alienate ppl!! Ummmm, you could say, "I put a lock on the fridge and threw away the key"....nah, that might not work either.....I would stick to the "lots of hard work, both mentally and physically".

Either way....yay you!

:clap2:

How about, "I had a physical exam, got serious about becoming healthy and made life changes to accomplish it."

My nosey neighbor told me the other day that she noticed I was losing weight, I thanked her and then she asked me what diet I following.

I said "I'm not dieting, I eat what ever I like, just smaller amounts" end of conversation.

IMHO, its nobodys business.

A few months ago I saw an old friend who lost 100 pounds. I was thrilled to see her looking younger, healthier, happier. I really wanted to know her secret so I could get help. When I asked her what she did, she flippantly responded, "You don't want to know. I've been through a lot." I was a little hurt that she found my inquiry offensive. I had assumed she had followed a diet, and it didn't even occur to me that she had WLS...hadn't even heard of the band at that time. I think we have to be careful, like you said, to make sure we show appreciation for the compliments, praise, and attention. We also need to be sensitive to those seeking answers for themselves. After losing the weight, do some bandsters become snobs?

I agree it is best to keep a reply as simple as possible. I usually just say "I have been trying to eat a little less and exercise a little more!".

I feel like when someone says 'wow you're looking great, what are you doing?' it is said in the same spirit as "hi, how are you today?'....it's just a nice friendly acknowledgment, but doesnt REALLY require a lengthy explanation, lol!!

I actually have been being very truthful and just telling people that I was banded.... I've not had one thing ugly said to me anout my decision...at least not to my face anyway"SHRUG" I really have been able to tell alot of people about the band and several have actually been checking into having it done. So my advice would be the ones you think need help with weight loss tell them about the band it might help them...but the ones you just wanna get them to leave you alone..just politley say thanks and that your eating smaller amounts and excersing.

"Watching my diet and exercise." If they want to know specifics, I tell them "I eat 1/2 of what I used to, minus bread, and walk most days."

I would tell someone who was my close friend. However, I mostly feel it is no person's business. Shawn

"I've been involved in a torrid love triangle with a set of swarthy Rumanian trapeze triplets"

LOL!!! :pound:

I guarantee that this reply would get lots of laughs and that would be the end of the questions, unless someone sincerely wanted to know and they pulled you aside to ask more discreetly.

Um, let's see... how about:

I decided it was time to take care of me, so with my Dr's supervision I changed my eating habits and lifestyle and it's really paid off.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
