That can really depend on your doctor. My insurance didn't really require any waiting. Or pre op diet. My doctor however required that I lose 10 percent body weight before surgery. So if you haven't already done so I would call your insurance yourself and ask what the requirements are for surgery.

I had my info session in late December, initial surgeon consult & labwork this morning. My insurance requires 3 consecutive months of nutrition counseling, personal training, and medically supervised diet plan. I am a college student and need to have my surgery during spring break, and the surgeon got the ball rolling ASAP so that everything can be done on time. I am tentatively scheduled for March 11.

I am a college student also and would love to have my surgery done spring break but I don't know if that would be cutting it close since my info session is January 18th

I would guess it depends on what your insurance requires (unless you're self pay, then I think you'd be fine) and how quickly you start everything after the info session. I have all my 1st month's appts within the next 6 days, then scheduling February's appts during the first week and March's during the first few days.

What is your major, and what year are you? I'm a Psychology major, graduating in May [goal #1 is to get to wear a size 12/14 to graduation!].

It depends on your insurance. I had my seminar in October and am currently on my mandated six month diet before I can be submitted for approval.

Contact your insurance and find out what their requirements are.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
