techniques to keep from pbing??

Besides of course, eating slowly and chewing thoroughly, anyone have advice when you know something is stuck that you can do before throwing up???

I have had my band for about 6 months, and am on my 3rd adjustment, and having a hard time now with getting everything stuck, I just had it done last week, so it may still be swollen. Anyone have any tricks to help the food slide down??? I've tried warm Water with salt---didn't work, tried to wait for it to go down on its own (too painful), if I want to throw it up I just drink a sip of water. I tried a cough drop with menthol and it seemed to help once, but, it may have been in my mind. Sometimes before I even swallow the first bite, I have a stuck feeling.

For me, it sometimes helps to get up and walk around when something seems stuck. Changing positions seems to help move things through the pouch faster.

I've heard that drinking warm Water BEFORE you eat can help loosen the band a little (and cold Water may tighten it).

If your problem is with meat, it might help to lubricate it with low-fat salad dressing or some other low cal condiment.

Hope that this stops being a problem for you soon. It's not fun to have stuckages, but I find they're not as common as time goes by. Eating small bites slowly comes naturally after a while.

    • Hesitant but hopeful

      Hey October Surgery friends...how are you doing? I've lost 15 lbs since surgery on 18th.42 lbs overall. Wearing clothes that feel great. Had a bout of cold and stomach flu and still having some nausea off and on after that but getting better, I think. 
      Seems like I fill up and have minor pain quicker when I eat hot foods rather than cold. Anyone else notice this?

        I had surgery Oct 29. Lost 35#. Plateau now. But seeing what clothes fit now is encouraging.
