My surgery is next week and I am getting nervous. I keep hearing about how I'm going to be throwing up all the time after and women have so many problems with the LapBand. I haven't told many people that I am having the surgery because I don't want the input...but I am getting nervous now. I don't want to be sick all the time!!! I go between being excited about the surgery to thinking that maybe I shouldn't do it. Am I alone in this?

Most people who follow their doctors orders do not throw up. I have had a stuck episode with smile, but no throw up in 13 months.

Nervous just means you are normal. Stick with the plan and you will do great!

I was banded on May 23rd and have not been sick at all. Have never thrown up. Do what the dr. tells you and you will be just fine. God Bless!

I've been banded for 11 months and never thrown up. In fact, you're supposed to avoid vomiting at all cost when you have the band, so if someone is throwing up all the time, they're doing something seriously wrong.

As far as women having all kinds of problems, for most, it's just the opposite. All the obesity related health issues get better if not resolve, even women with PCOS are much better after surgery and weight loss.

Being nervous is normal, just be sure your case of nerves is from facts rather than fiction. Getting all worked over myths and false information is a waste of your energy.

Best wishes, you'll do fine :)

If you discuss your fears with your Dr I bet he would tell you if used properly you should have none of those issues with the band. The only time I have thrown up was when I was sick... I have "brought up" food if I didnt take a small enough bite, if I accidentially ingested fatty meat or if I ate too fast or drank Water while eating. But I cannot blame the band. That was my own fault.

Knock on wood 2+ years out have never thrown up. Many people keep the band WAY too tight thinking that increases weigh loss. In reality normally flows down like loss!

No throwing up here. I also keep my band on the loose end of the green zone. Its worked well for me.

Nervousness is normal, I would be concerned if you weren't!

Enjoy the journey, it's worth it!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
