Y surgery is less than two weeks and I still haven't told my 3 adult children or my parents. My husband, of course, knows. As anyone lse been afraid to tell friends and family? I'm afraid they will judge or not understand.

I told my husband, two closest friends, and 2 daughters. Wish I had skipped the daughters. Not supportive and scared I would die I think. Evaluate your kids... you know how they will react, bif you are not sure of support, skip telling them until after.

U r so right! My youngest (son) said if that's what I want, the middle (daughter) No and the oldest (daughter) is okay but very concern on if it's going to cause severe or death.... My parents dnt know I am having it because I know how they feel...

This blog has been wonderful..

While I understand its a personal choice to tell or not to tell....You are having surgery. There are risks associated with surgery. Most likely it will be uneventful and you will breeze through it. But God forbid there are complications. Is it fair to them to be blindsided?

Something to consider.

Best wish for a successfull journey.

I guess I was different. I told everyone, family, work, friends etc.. I wanted all the support and eyes on me as I could get, I knew if people were watching I would be more likely to stay committed because I hate to fail at anything. It was a lot of pressure but it worked for me. My mother on the other hand chose not to tell any of her friends, not sure why, she said it was none of their business. I almost felt she was ashamed of me because I had to do surgery to lose the weight. I say you do what makes you comfortable but family needs to know especially children. Even though this is a very simple procedure, it is surgery and things can go wrong even on simple procedures.

My mom, husband, and daughter knew beforehand. I sent out an email to the rest of my CLOSE friends, dad, and sister at midnight the night before surgery because I knew that by the time they read it, I would already be at the hospital. In essence, I told them I didn't tell them because it was a very personal decision and I didn't want anyone to try to influence my choice. I put other stuff in it and just asked them that whether or not they supported my decision, to please support me as a person and to please pray for my surgery to go well. I have to say, surprisingly, EVERY ONE of them stood by me. One person did say she was surprised I went to such drastic measures, but she loved me and knows I have struggled with my weight in the 20 years we have known each other. One more note...my husband was not a fan of this when I first decided back in June to meet with a surgeon, and was not even thrilled over the 5 months leading up to my surgery. He never even went to any of my monthly appointments with my surgeon. However, he took me to the hospital, brought me home, and has been one of my biggest supporters since!

My husband knows but that's it. I think it's a personal decision. I have many friends who have had t done and someone somewhere always says....they took the easy way out, why didn't they try weight watchers, or they are the food police at every dinner, BBQ or party. So for me I just wanted to travel this alone and with all of you LBT supporters.

Thank U so much ladies, it has been a task on trying to debate on who to tell because it's a personal decision and u dnt want any negative feedback, but on the same hand I see if GOD forbid something to go wrong! WOW not going to think that way..... Thanks to everyone....

I thought about sending them all an email and tell that way. I'm having it done on 12/21 and everyone will be home for Christmas so there is no way I can hide just having surgery. Wish me luck! Btw, started preop diet today and I'm hungry but not too bad.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
